MS3 Powder Coat+Tint

instead of powder coating, find a connection at some place that sells rims and get some lightweights for about 4 or 500, lose roughly 100 lbs or more off your wheel load. each wheel is 50 lbs. stock. buy a lightweight 17 inch at 12 lbs a piece, total weight with tire about 25 lbs (at most), and lose a total of 100 lbs. not only is the weight off you cars, but its that much less your tranny has to spin. so its a very important 100 lbs. every 100 lbs is about a tenth of a second or so, and since its less weight your tranny has to spin, your looking at probably 2 tenths of a second. thats the difference between 13.2 and maybe even hitting a 12.9. how nice would that be....(with other mods of course...)

there is NO way your going to get a wheel and tire combo that is 25lbs...

lightweight wheels weigh 17-18lbs, and lightweight tires usually weigh about 20...

if you can get a 17 inch 11 lb wheel, (which is totally possible at an affordable price) and add a tire...you can shave 25 lbs off the original weight of the tire loosing roughly 20 to 25 lbs per wheel. which in my opinion is worth a decent chunk of change. seriously.....why 18 inch rims if they weight so much? sounds like its time for a new thread and a discussion......

wrong X2

more bs... try and find a 17inch 11lb. wheel for cheap, go ahead... volks are forged and their 17s weigh more than 11lbs. and the wheels are atleast 400 each, so go ahead and prove me wrong, that would be nice so i can buy the rims you found.

before you go and just bash the guy saying 'bulls***' do a little bit more research...of course volks and forged rims are gonna be expensive! they're volks and forged...you know....DESIGNER rims! Dont ask me what the brand is, but I have heard of inexpensive lightweight rims, but they arent volks or forged, and they arent intended for everyday driving. Ask the guys who actually USE their car at the track often and they will tell you what they are, but dont flame people in a thread that has already been threadjacked...take this discussion to a new thread

theres the brand

Gram Lights, some of the most lightweight rims Ive seen, at a pretty affordable price for rims...17"

now lets get back on topic

thanks for the bigger picture!

thanks for the back up. $150 a piece. nice find btw. i might pick up a set now. theres a new thread known as MS3....Lead wheels.

I def like the powdercoated rims though. the stock rims look nice with the style of the car and with the true red the dark rims fit it even nicer IMO. now how easy can you F*** up your rims wth the powdercoat? does it easily come off?

no problem

and yea, but the problem with the grams is that they are easy to bend (from potholes...bumps...etc...) cause they are so light...use em at the track when you actually need the performance

but for on the streets, I would definately powdercoat the rims cause that really does look sweet...

idk how hard it is to screw them up though...my ex-bro powdercoated his rims and they never really got damaged (especially form the way he drives lol) so I figure its not that easy...idk though

If you have them done, you will have a hard time getting the powdercoat off... that's one of the strong points of powdercoating... the durability.

If you didn't like them or whatever you would have to have them media blasted to get it off.

so its not like your washing your rims and you hit the rim to hard with the brush or something and knock a nice silver line in the powdercoat. well thats good to know.

My rim was hit by a huge bumper on a truck from a guy that backed into me. My wheels has a tiny scratch in it....

The paint on your car will go long before the powdercoat....

I've had my 4-wheeler frame done now for two years and it regularly takes hits from rocks, tree branches, etc... I probably have 1 or 2 tiny chips from boulders....

the cool thing about painting them yourself is that if you do get chips or flaws over time, you can always re-spray them. if you get chipped powder coat, you'd have to have the whole wheel coated. i don't think there's anything wrong with painting them... in fact i'm sure it will be just as durable as it needs to be for wheels. afterall, most oem wheels are painted... i've seen some really well done painted wheels. i might just paint mine and if they don't come out right, get them coated. btw, duplicolor makes a wheel coating.

if/when i get one (not sure of color yet debating between black and red) i'd powdercoat or paint a dark gray maybe gunmetal?
