sure,it would be no differnt of a swap then putting in a 4G63,or a SR20,or any other transverse engine.

you would just have to do some serious hacking,and modifacations.
 
Ive never seen the swap, could be interesting to see if it can be done.

If the motor mounts aligns on the engine, its very possible.
 
If you are going to bother to swap that out, why not drop in something CRAZY like a 350 Small Block..
 
Might have to do a little frame notching here and there. Tranny might bolt up with an adapter plate, you'll need to do new mounts. And rewire. I'd actually like to see that done to the MP5 and the MSP/MP3, lol.
 
I have been waiting for somebody to do this, it give us msp guys a lot more potential to work with in my opinion

Fitment will likely be an issue. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I read that the mazdaspeed 3's engine is basically the same engine that was put in the mazdaspeed 6 (the 2.3 liter t). Mazdaspeed engineers had to design the ms6 with a domed hood to compensate for the engine's height above the frame. Mazdaspeed did a similar thing to the ms3 by traying the hood slightly to raise it 20mm. Also to squeeze the 2.3 t engine into the bay of the ms3, they had to modify the dash to accomodate it (there's an indentation in the dash panel).

Aside from the various fitment issues you'll run into, you'll most likely run into a host of electrical issues.
 
Swapping out the third gen 1.8 or the 1.6 for the 2.0 is a pain in the ass, and that's protege to protege. It gets even more complicated swapping between models. For all the money you'd spend doing the ms3 swap, you could have made much more power on your protege's original.

Yes the hood is raised on the MS6 but its not due to the engine, its due to the fact that the intercooler is top mounted and fed air through a ram air system. If that was changed to a FMIC system Im sure that would bring the hieght down...

The 1.6 protege engine is supposibly the best for taking boost. atleast 16 psi with good tunning is easy from what I understand, the 2.0 tech has more potencial but the stock internals are not as good, (1.6 has better stroke, so it's not fragile) Don't know much about the 1.8
 
gtx motor, harness, ECU ~$1500
escort gt axles, transmission, linkage, hubs etc -buy a $300 parts car
custom mounts and your done. its that easy....lol anything works with time and money.
 
the more I think about this the more I think the best way to build power would be just to get a block with forged internals and some good ems prob cost less than swapping and then you KNOW you will be able to make some power
 
In the long run I you'll make the same power for the same money (theoretically) but the 2.3 should be a better platform (more potencial) but a pain to tune, because of the Direct injection.

How come??? Ive done it and everything swaps like stock! Motor mounts, axles, tranny, arms, etc. (even tranny swaps between engines is like installing bolt-ons).
