Hey everyone,

just thought I would post a note here about finding a blown rear shock on my MS3.

I had my car on the lift today after washing it. I wanted to check out the undercarriage and get familiar with it. I was looking at the brake calipers at all four corners and behold, the right rear shock is covered in oil. A quick check of the other three shows them dry.

I have worked on cars and aircraft for years, so I spotted the blown shock immediately.

Will be going in early this week to get it replaced.

This all makes sense now because the car has been handling weird lately.

I case you are wondering, no I havent been abusing the car. (dunno)

maybe thats why....our car need some action....our car love to be abuse.... take it to autoX....mix in a track day here and there....(thumb)

blown shock

Can you tell me how many miles are on your MS3 when the shock blew? Thanks.(huh)

^ x2. I want to hear more about this too. When you say the car was handling "weirdly", what was happening?

i noticed in the last month that the car felt like it wallowed over bumps and that in a hard corner it didnt feel as planted. I had the car at my friends shop the other day washing it, so I put it on the lift and behold the blown shock.

The car has 2800 miles. I love this car but some of this stuff is starting to scare me.....

Got a call from the shop today. No replacement shock available in Houston Texas, so it is being overnighted.

well unfortunately buying brand new cars can suck because they haven't been out long enough for all of the bugs to be worked out. But that is what a warranty is for. good luck

Got the car back last Tuesday and all is well. It feels like a brand new car all over again. I didnt realize how bad the ride and handling had gotten with the bad shock.

If any of you have your cars in the air anytime soon, please check out your front struts and rear shocks. If they are blown they will be coverd in oil from top to bottom.

with the msp's it was lsd/motor/headunit so with the ms3 its dropped engines/shocks?

how you blew a shock from normal driving is beyond me, sounds like mazda has really come up with quality parts once again.

Let me go on record to say that I have not abused the suspension in any way. I have hit a pretty bad pothole, but that was the front right wheel that suffered and the rear right didnt hit it at all.

I do try to corner pretty hard on clover-leafs and the like, but this is hardly abuse. I smell a suspension upgrade in the near future.....
