MS Protege for me?

I had an E36 BMW and I want you to know that your maintenace costs are going to be high. They are very technical vehicles. where the complexity is impressive, but alos a pain in the ass come maintenance time. They are great cars if you can afford the maintenance and aftermarket. just my .02

wow some of you guys are really turning me away from it. The idea is to get a car I barely have to touch for a couple years. I've owned 5 BMWs, 3 of which have been at least 10 years old, so I have done my fair share of mechanic work and maintenance.

Though I may still go for one. I will be test driving one this weekend if I can find one around here... same with an RSX and I'll take it from there.

if ya want something completly, and i mean incredibly, trouble free, get a 1993-1997 toyota corolla with a manual tranny.

if you want thrills and a VERY good handling and somewhat enough power to overcome 90% of the cars on the road, get a msp. the LSD is about the ONLY thing that will go wrong.. the rest is ok.

theres a price to pay for uniqueness.. and a LSD that will break ONCE is that.

Then get a low mileage Miata and use the rest to pay your bills. Seriously.

coming from a M3 you'll need something that pulls dude.. your standards will be high.. and with understanding..

if thats what you really want id seriously have to advise you to avoid the MSP...I try to baby mine as much as possible, but ever since I got it I have been replacing things and upgrading parts as they break. First i needed new motor mounts, then the stock sub blew, the LSD snapped in half, my windshield developed a crack for no apparent reason, after putting a new intercooler in I had to get a new pcv valve, stock battery completely crapped out....

Seriously I love the car, but my whole point in buying one was for 1.) the uniqueness (all my buddies are wrx, evo, vw nuts), 2.) it has a stock turbo, and 3.) I planned to upgrade to better parts as original ones began failing.

Good Luck with your choice though, it is a pretty rare and nice looking car to have.

It all gets down to this...the Protoge was never ment to have a turbo on it. It's a parts car. Nice an all but...it's not a Mazda turbo kit..it's kind of a thrown together car really.

Basically it was there econo car they added some stuff to make it cool.

sad but true..

I say either keep the M3 or get a speed. As long as you don't increase the boost without getting forged internals you should be okay.
