So i began working on installing my mazdaspeed cold air intake. First time doing this sort of thing, and the directions are pretty vauge with few pictures. I have been digging on the internet for some sort of video on how to install this thing with every step. But all i can find are 2 min vidoes on AEM's intake and crap. Does anyone know of a video and or GOOD clear instructions with detailed pictures for a retard like me? Im very frustrated. I just cant seem to get the thing to fit right and the splash shield seems to big for the area of the filter and seems liek i wont be able to put the wheelwel back together. HELP!(braindead

came across this from somebody that owns this exact intake, is this really a problem? how can it be fixed???

"This intake utilizes a smaller diameter air meter housing, this in-turn throws off the fuel trims for your Gen1 & Gen2 and increases your fuel dilution in your oil! I had up to 10% at 3200miles. Do not buy unless you have ability to recalibrate ECU for new MAF diameter. I bought one from dealer and had installed by them and got full refund as part not meant for Gen2 but would have same effect on Gen1"

You have the correct intake. The quote is BS. I've been running the Mazdaspeed CAI for over three years. It is a rebranded AEM. The issue is not with the Gen 1 -- its Gen 2, which does uses a different diameter MAF housing. If you have Gen 1, then this is an excellent intake, in either Mazdaspeed label or AEM. Make sure you do have the air straightener in your kit. Some early releases from Mazda did not have the straightener, and it is important.

Here is the AEM instruction pdf. I think it's pretty clear and no video should be necessary. Make sure you install the air straightener and align it correctly.

I've also attached Mazda's instructions and its separate paper on the straightener and a copy of the Mazdaspeed recommendation for alignment or "clocking" of the straightener. Please note that Mazda and AEM are not in agreement on clocking position. Mazda thinks it matters, so I use the Mazda recommended position. This clocks the dot on the outside rim of the straightener pointing at the middle of the MAF sensor. This positions the vanes of the straightener at about a 30 degree angle to the right of the MAF sensor when looking down the inside of the tube.

I hope this helps.

NOTE: AEM does not provide instructions, it seems, for installation of the splash shield. But I think it is important. It is covered in the attached Mazda instructions. It's simply held on with two supplied bolts that go into the bracket on the end of the CAI right above where your filter attaches. Don't worry about the spash shield being bigger than your filter. It's intended to fit up closely to that left front fender liner when the liner is put back in place.

Tons of threads on this so there should be no problem finding any kind of advice you're looking for; thanks to all those threads I ultimately went with the AEM back when the MSCAI had limited availability because Mazda couldn't make up their mind if they liked it as an aftermarket part or not. Mine came with the straightener which I installed per the AEM instructions (straight up and down); zero issues in about 30K miles. I didn't find out about the 30degree setup the MSCAI recommends until after I installed mine and I wouldn't have any problem changing it but since I haven't had any problems I haven't bothered. The AEM didn't come with the shield but I made my own with some 10inch roofers sheathing. Don't criticize the sheathing, it turned out great.

well my MS cia doesnt even really fit right, i might end up cutting a small chunk of it off to save room because the stupid wheelwell gets rubbed big time when i turn right. sigh... its becoming more trouble than its worth

Please see my PM. I suspect that you need to remove the "air director" down in front of the left front fenderwell liner between it and the left front fog light. That has to come out to make room for the CAI. Good luck.
