Got the MS CAI installed last weekend. Love it. My question is this: I've noticed the stock bov is fairly audible. How does the HKS SSQ bov compare to this? I'm thinking of getting one, but don't want the bov sound to be too loud. Thanks for any info.

hey captain...

the HKS is too high pictched personally for me. The stock is indeed, a little quiet, although, atleast you can here it.

if i had to give you a good suggestions, go with a the TurboXS 50%Rec / 50% VTA BOV. Awesome .... woooosh .... sound ... not too loud and high pitched like the HKS or Greddy ....

it is a direct bolt on, no extra flange like the others which in turn, can cause more places to leak... So, the 1 piece design like that of the Hybrid TurboXS is the best aftermarket BOV in my opinion...

you can find it here... http://www.turboxs.com/item.php?ID=243

and the sound clip can be found here ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCMtBtl6vkc

let me know if you have any other questions....

Why do people do the blow off valve upgrade?

Is it all for sound or does it actually do something better then stock?

a better blowoff valve has the potential to hold boost better than the stock valve, especially down the line if you are looking to raise the boost.

i dont like the turbo xs one. i dont see it as beein any better than running vta.
you are still venting some metered air, which does cause a momentary lean condition, costing power.
as for the sound of the HKS if it is put on properly (in recirc) it no longer has a high pitch sound. that piece that makes that noise has to be removed to install the recirc fitting. my cousin has a HKS on his evo (in recirc) and it sounds great. i pesonally stick with greddy valves, as thay have never let me down .

If it's venting to air, it's causing a momentary rich condition.
