MPG's

I bought the M2 based on real-world consumer mpg reports and knew it was rated too low. More would sale with accurate numbers and I'm getting around 40mpg in my long daily commute.

EPA numbers are inaccurate. Go to their website and you'll understand how they do ratings - not every vehicle is tested for fuel economy. Manufacturers are required to split each model into smaller groups and a vehicle from each group with the highest projected sales is tested. Manufacturers test all vehicles at their lab. EPA confirms about 15% of vehicles at its lab.

Okay, so I've been driving my Mazda Poo since around October/November ish. Iunno how some of you guys/gals are averaging what you're averaging. I'm averaging like 28-29 mpg's. I give'r every once in a while, but other than that I drive pretty conservative. I always time Stoplights, coast in gear (which I've read is better for fuel economy than going to neuch), I'm liberal, not dangerous, at stop signs. On the highway I'm always betweem 65-68ish MPH. Iunno how some of you guys/gals are getting like mid 30's and such. Iunno if it was winter gas that was affecting it or not, or some other possibilties. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? I'm always open to that.

Btw, for anyone up in the North, when do they stop using winter gas?

Last tank was over 43mpg with almost all freeway. Not running a/c at all this time of year and normally drive alone.

This car is very sensitive to weight, which is to be expected given its size. My worst tank (33 mpg) had a bit more city driving but was also with my wife, two kids and Sam's Club/Target shopping on board - an extra 300+ pounds of weight.

My average so far has been 30.29 mpg and I don't feather-foot it at all. This is with an automatic trans. 2K miles

For 5 tanks in April I got:

38.43
40.35
39.97
40.50
43.47

AVG for April: 40.54

My total average over the last 1300mi since getting the car is 28.5, according to the gauge. It does great on the freeway but I'm getting destroyed locally thanks to the fact that the morons who timed the lights in this city did it so that you have to stop every 1/4mi no matter where you're going or in what direction, but that doesn't stop traffic from accelerating to 45mph in between the lights. So it's a constant cycle of hard acceleration to 45 and then immediate deceleration back to a stop, over and over again.

34.5mpg (calculated) my first fill up. Mostly [very] aggressive driving on back country roads with some freeway and in-town usage. I was surprised I got that high considering what they are rated at. I don't think I could achieve less if I tried.

I'm averaging 36 mpg, at 1200 miles on the car. how much does it increase after the break in period?

I would guess it increases about 2 mpg's after break-in. Not sure if that's actually due to it breaking in or if it's due to the driver getting in tune with the car. I know I drive differently now than when I first bought the car. That manual transmission about killed me.............so much different than the truck I owned for 14 years. Finally got used to it, but it took a long time.

10 months old and mine hit 25k miles yesterday. Still getting 39-40 avg mpgs. But that's mostly highway with some heavy evening rush hour backups at times. If highway speeds were 60 then I'd see around 43 or 44mpgs.

Now I'm averaging 6.7l/100km / 35 mpg, and I still manage to have fun... THIS was the gas mileage I was looking for, not the 28-29 mpg I was getting before..

I only have about 350 miles on the car so far, but I have averaged 36.5mpg according to the trip computer. I do a lot of Highway driving, I sometimes avg 42mpg easily at 70mph.

Here is my fuelly
http://www.fuelly.com/driver/finglonger/2

My city driving is nearly all very short downtown trips where the engine barely has time to warm up. Most of those highway miles are on interstates doing ~75mph with the AC running. If I tried driving for fuel economy I could get a lot more out of the car.

According to the trip computer I'm still only averaging like 29MPG. I'm driving a lot of short trips with stop and go, and the A/C is on a lot, but I should still be doing better than this. Maybe I need to try a higher tire pressure.

try 28.9 since i installed the ksport my average went down. but my guess is cuz i havent done an alignment and its summer time.

I get about 33-35mpg and thats about 90% city. On my highway driving, if I keep it below 85mph I get around 40mpg

Still at 31 combined. High of 42s lows in mid 20s. Carrying lots of crap or passengers. 18,500 miles.
