The stock exaust on my car really sounds pretty sick (in the bad way) I would like to put in a relativly inexpensive cat-back system. Here's the catch. I'm not wanting to sound like a ricer from the line. I want something that is more quiet and reserved, but sounds quality and powerful. Any Sugesstions?

I was planning on the MSP exhaust !?

From what i have heard, it fits your description. :D

HKS axle back. I like it better than the Mazdaspeed. It has a drone at high RPM, but with the silencer in there is no noise inside.

i personally like the in cognito look of the racing beat cat back. it looks rad. and it sounds great. do a search on exhausts for the p5. tons of people have asked the same question as you.

well depends on how much you wanna spend....

racing beat by far i have heard is the best cat back system. largest diameter piping and non obtrusive look, ie, looks more like stock.

HKX and Ractive make good axle back systems and I know the Ractive one can be found for about 200 plus shipping.

Bosal, Thermal, Greddy, TeamMoon all have cat back systems for our cars although I heard Greddy is the most like rice in sound.

Custom systems can be made from local shops for the same or less than a retail one.

There are a few companies who are also in developement of systems for our cars.

I know ractive will have a mid pipe for their axle back system within a yr.

i know the Mazdaspeed is pretty loud on our P5's compared to others.....also, if you just go with the GReddy exhaust, its loud, but i head the full cat-back system quiets it down a TON.....anyway....if ya got the dough, go with a racing beat.

the Racing Beat is by the far the best exhuast if you plan on only a few bolt-on mods...The 2.375" diameter is excellent for a decent kick in power across the entire rev band for a minorly built FS...it it s fairly heavy system, but has excellent exhuast tone

HKS and 5Zigen offer bigger (2.5" or more, excluding the slightly larger than stock HKS axle-back) cat-back systems for around the same price, both being a little more expensive...these will not help with lowend torque, being bigger in diameter, but will help with high rpm breathing...(simplified: you may see a higher peak output with the larger exhuasts, but you will not gain or could loose a little lowend torque)...both of these systems are a little lighter than the RB, but have much more of droning sound at cruising speed, and may have a raspy (rice) acceleration tone..

The MSP factory sport exhuasts are more for sound than performance gains (but you still may pick up a few hp)...I have no experience with them...

i'm getting a 2.25" cat-back magnaflow installed soon..... can't wait! i'll let y'all know how it is...

Do what Im gonna do. Custom flowmaster cat back. With racing mazda headers and magnaflow high flow cats, but if you just looking for sound ignore this sentence.

Let me know if you would like a Racing BEat system. I will gladly set you up with club pricing. I had this system and aside from it's weight it was awesome for those who just want a nice deep sound at WOT. At cruising it's unnoticeable.

Thanks, Rishie
