MP3 vs 03 Civic Ex

Um... The 1.7L VTEC isn't the VTEC-E that the HX civic has. It has 127HP and 110ft-lbs of torque.
yep it is...same system but slightly more advanced and with extra displacement

the biggest way to tell is to ride in a 2k1 civic ex vtec with short ram intake...you won't hear vtec engage like you would on the older sohc vtecs the ex sedan and coupe had

for more proof than me just saying so check this article on how the 2k1 civic vtec 1.7 engine was tuned for fuel economy like the HX was

"the VTEC system on EX models has been retuned for improved fuel efficiency."

so wat ever happen with ur mp3 man, i would be so depressed if i lost to a 7th gen lol.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I have an appointment with Mazda on Friday at 1:00 to get my car check.

Then I'll test both the cars again. I will keep everyone up to date on my little issue.

I almost peed my pants when i read he lost to the 03 civic stock. You car is ****** up man get that s*** checked out.. Where i race civics wont race me unless they are modified pretty good or runnin an si or above. When i had my mp3 i could take about 1-2 cars on lightly modified 7th gen civics from lights all day.

nocar,

I know what you mean. I felt like a piece of wet 5hit when no matter how much I try, I just couldn't catch up to him. I know there is somthing wrong with my car. I checked the plugs and everything was okay. The car seems to idle more than it should.

i'm not that surprised you lost. the Civic is about 200 lbs lighter than your MP3 (~2550 vs. ~2750). that negates the ~13hp advantage you have. it sounds like it went pretty much as it should...driver's race.

but if the car feels weird to you, get it checked out.

edit: also keep in mind that the civic probably changes gears quicker and much more smoothly than our big-rig shifters, esp the 1-2 shift. that's a lot of lost time in the Protege.

No Offense or anything, but Please tell me you are kidding. The MP3 has a quicker shift due to the short-throw shifter than any stock Civic including the 00Si. The only thing i would agree on is the Smoother shifting on the Civic's, Supposely what previous civic Owner's used to say. BTW the MP3 (STOCK) will smoke any Civic except the 99-00Si. The MP3 with Injen CAI will smoke any Civic With I/H/E, except the 99-00SI. Either the MP3 driver sucks, or something's wrong with the car, or the Civic Driver must be a professional driver. This comparison is like saying yeah My MP3 (Stock) can beat a 00Si (STOCK).

I dropped off my car Friday and recieved a call on Saturday. The mechanic called me and told me that there is an error with my ECU causing other parts to function not like how it should. At first, I did not know what he means and sort of got into a verbal argument and finally smiled when he told me not to worry because it was probably a production error, and got it fix under warrenty. :D
Does anyone know what this problem might be, I've never heard of this before. The person that called me was a f#$ken 'a' hole.

I got my car back today, and drove around the block a few times and notice that the car feels stronger. The feel of the cars pull is stronger and longer. The idle of the car is steady and smooth. I did not have the time to run my car on the Gtech but plan on doing so Tuesday. If things go well, I will run both my cars this weekend and let you guys know the results this weekend.

I drive a 2k1 ex, and my friend has a mp3 w/ intake, and i can honestly say that up too 80 i had him by inches. I'm not saying that the civic is faster, the cars are so close it really comes down to who can drive and who cant. And as to who can shift faster, i've driven his car many times and i can definitly say that i can go from gear to gear faster in my civic then i can in his mp3(he needs motor mounts bad!)

uhhhhhhhhh lol no way man my mp3 with intake motor mounts and ss destoyed modifed civics by like alot of cars lol... i have a 7th gen with cai, its slow! slow slow if you cant beat a 7th gen start racin ur car more, bring it to the track to practice, the mp3s stock are capable of this.

yo fsr idk if u got my new sn its speedball2069

btw how bout u tell the story about the test drive i gave u and your friend that one time lol

no way. the MP3 is fastAr. it has racing hart rimz y0.

I've gone undefeated racing a dx or lx civic, I can keep up with an ex without him running away too fast but I know how to drive.
Your clutch is probably fucktified. If you feel it slipping or stalling the p.plate fingers can be worn or your flywheel is probably glazed, you can take it to a machine shop n have it resurfaced. Otherwise, you should be shitting on v-tec if you put your car on a high octane diet, lose some of that weight and shift inside the powerband.

Rematch: I ran my two cars this past Saturday night at Norport. I was in my MP3 and my brother-in-law in the civic. When the lights turned green I sprinted ahead of him about 1 car length, then when I shifted to 2nd he started to catch up, as a matter of fact I think he was right by my side, then when I shifted to 3rd I was gaining on him. We both reached the speeds of between 80 - 85 miles per hour. The bottom line is I BEAT him by a car length. We raced 3 times and won 2 out of the three runs. For the last run I was just experimenting with the car, (i was not trying).

I was going to switch cars with my brother-in-law but the cops were too near by.

it's the cars.. has nothing to do with drivers.

They switched cars and the civic still won...
Chances are the only thing wrong with the mp3 is .... it's to heavy..

bruce95fmla, your right. If you read my previous post about some problems that I had, you will see that there was somthing wrong with my car. I am presently kicking my other cars' butt (the civic).

I'm planning on selling my black 2003 Civic Ex, coupe. Anyone wants to purchase the car. It's in great shape with around 10,000 miles. I'm selling it for $13,000.00 or best offer.
