Mp3 Strut and Coilover problem

I went to install the coilovers on myrear struts and the little hat that is supposed to sit right below the threads on the absolute top of the strut does not have a wide enough opening to slide down enough...Should I just drill it out a bit more?

Has anyone ran into this at all?>
