MP3 stock muffler piping diameter? FOUND!!!

This has been discussed before, but noone seems to have a straight answer. Most people who discussed this seemed to agree that the stock muffler had smaller piping then the Racing Beat catback, but WHAT IS THE PIPING SIZE through the axleback on our car?

I have the stock exhaust, and am debating between upgrading to either the Racing Beat catback or the Magnaflow catback. The big question is if I go with the Racing Beat one, would I be buying the same muffler (or a VERY similar one)? I know that the racing beat has 2.375-inch piping, but if the stock muffler has say 2.25-inch piping, I'd rather just get the 2 other pieces done by a local muffler shop with that same piping size (and change the midpipe with a highflow cat while I'm at it).

Any input from knowledgeable members out there?

The stock MP3 exaust is a stock Protege exaust but with a racing beat muffler. IF you buy a racing beat cat back you'll be getting a hole new set of pipes from the Cat, back. hence cat back. I think it actualy comes with a high flow cat and a pipe that eliminates the pre-cat.. but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Thanks for taking time to try and answer my question, but none of that is news to me. I know that the only upgrade is the muffler (axleback), but my point is should I bother with getting a full RB catback if the piping is only 1/8" wider through the muffler (since the RB is 2.375" through the whole thing, according to their site and protegegarage). Assuming the axleback is 2.25", I'd just get a custom cat --> muffler piping (2.25") for a fraction of the price of a full exhaust...if it's 2", then I'd get the whole thing.
Hence again, my question is, what is the piping diameter through our muffler?
And for the record, the RB does NOT replace the cat with a high flow, since as you mentioned it, it's a catback, therefore it is placed BEHIND the cat (which is in the midpipe). What may look like a cat is actually a pratty big resonator...

The Racing beat pipe is not only bigger (by 1/8" you say.. i have no idea, i never read the specs.) but it's also straighter. 1/8" plus reduced curves will make a big difference in the power. well about 5hp or so.

If you really need to find out what the piping diameter through our muffler is just check what pipe you need to buy for a regular protege. I dont understand how you dont know if you know the RB pipe is 1/8" wider.

All and all, if you get a RB or any other Cat back exhaust the pipe will be smoother and straighter to help out with power.. providing you have a air intake.

and by the way.. I pulled out the 5hp out of my ass. I have no idea.. I think RB have a dyno chart on their site.

The 1/8" of an inch is a total assumption, ASSUMING that the RB axleback is 2.25" piping...no basis for that. It might not be (it could be 2.375 according to the wording that RB uses (copied on protegegarage)). Your 5hp is not out of your ass...you did read 4.7hp on their site...but that's over the regular protege exhaust...who knows how much the extra piping adds to the stock MP3 exhaust...(dunno)

Alrite so after questions posted here with no answer, after a call to Racing Beat in California which turned up nothing (telling me that Mazda should know...YA RIGHT!), and not having the time to get under my car just yet while I'm repainting my rims all weekend (stupid crappy weather), I finally found an answer to this question!!!(yippy)
Got to love our fellow Mazda Forums, this being a post from a fellow member here (TheMan):

Now all I need is to find a RB dealership in Ontario...Ehkart mentioned one in BC...

Edit: For all you Canadian guys who do want to buy from a Canadian company and didn't already know, Mazdee's (http://www.goodmedia.com/mazdees/) has it and is asking 750$ + shipping/taxes...
