MP3, MSP, P5 chips/tuners

so if i understand well it will be like a flash for vw 2.0l n/a ? something like 5 hp , but a lot more felling ?more quick when it the gaz ?

I wanna see whats capable out of our cars. I don't really wanna pay 3-500 bucks for something to give me 5 hp. I already bought an intake and an exhaust, and Ill take the money for the tuner and get cams instead. If its something like 15-20hp, i'll seriously consider it. I also hope that this is a tuner, not a chip. That way it's reversible (similar to the Superchips programmers), and if it gives you the ability to change depending on conditions.

i was saying dont expect too much from this when i stated that full ems systems produce 10-15whp which is a ton in my eyes for a stock car but they cost 900+ i think 5hp+ from this is well worth it.

I understand, but what I'm saying is that you can buy the intake and exhaust cams from Mazdaspeed, and they'll give 18hp on an N/A car for about 500 bucks.

OK, but what good are those mods if you don't maximize the tune for them?

Its my understanding that theres no tune needed for that performance. I'm sure that a tune would only increase the amount of power gained from such a modification.

You will be able to adjust fuel and timing to a certain extent, and you can adjust the rev-limiter and speed-limiter, turn off secondary O2 sensors, adjust for different tire sizes, adjust automatic shifting, etc. And it is a scan tool.

I really don't think an intake and cams will give you 18whp. There are guys on here that have done this already and only got 5-10whp. The only cams that will give you any real gains are custom made, then you'll need the cam gears. That alone will cost 500+. Then the exhaust. If you do it right, header highflow cat and so on you'll be out 500+. Ask twilight how much he has in his car. I say if you do go with new cams and this thing works, you'd be crazy not to get it. With it, you could get a good amount of power out of your mods. (thumb)

Yeah if this works out it will be a must have for every protege owner. Our stock maps, especially the MSP's, are so god awful pig rich that something like this could not only free up some peak power, but it will make the torque curve much nicer and probably give you better gas mileage. Remember, when you're tuning your objective is not the same as just slapping mods on. When you put a CAI or exhaust on, you're really just looking to get more power, but the objective of tuning a car is to use that power effectively. Peak HP gains do not matter, if this ends up netting a 2 whp gain but make the curve flatten out and lift up a little bit, it will be more than worth it.

No, you need to tune for the level of performance you are looking for with the mods you want to do.

Just putting on an intake and exhaust will not just automatically give you the best horsepower you can get. The ECU in the Protege is a PITA when it comes to this stuff. It runs rich stock, adding more air flow will make it run more rich to compensate. You don't want that.

And tossing in cams will not get the magic 18 horsepower. Advertised peak rates are great for advertising. But reality will show different numbers.

Here's to hoping that this thread doesn't die. How many times have I see something look to have progress then it just dies. I hope this all works out.
