I saw someone selling what i think was an mp3 ecu for a protege5 and i was trying to find the advanteges i tried searching but no luck finding any info could anyone help me out?

i thought someone said you got better gas mileage? cause i must say i'm way less than impressed with the mpg this car gets

yeah, it does improve it. i don't know by how much, but i'm curious to know because i'm thinking of upgrading my ECU after this winter.

you'll gain a few hp, but your power band will be much smoother. you'll definitely be able to tell the difference, best n/a mod for the price imo

I am not sure about mpg but it will smooth out the power band and give u a very slight boost in power. I have contemplated getting an MP3 ECU but in my eyes its not worth the slight boost on top of having to use high octane gas. At least with my exhaust components I can argue it'll help with mpg on top of the small boost in power.

yeah i'm projectmx on toprotege also... and i use 91 octane most of the time anyway

what exhaust did you do that gave you better mileage?!

You don't have to use the high octane gas I don't but I'm also poor if I had the money I would. But just about any intake or exhaust will help gas milage out not a huge impact more of a really small one

The MP3 ECU is worth it. The car runs so much smoother with it and gets excellent mileage (paired with good mods) with a slight increase in speed.

I got to around 25mpg city and 31mpg highway in my P5. That was driving conservatively and with some bolt-on mods. (MP3 ECU, 626 intake manifold, cold air intake, header, cat-back exhaust, lowered, added lightness, etc...)

The drivability and better powerband are the big bonuses here. MPG might be a little better, but I wouldn't count on it. That being said, the Mp3 ecu is a great mod and I would recommend it to anyone. It makes the car so much more pleasureable to drive, and it pairs well with other mods. But if you're not going to run premium, don't waste your time. It was designed to run premium, and if you run regular, you lose much of the benefit. It's only $.20 more a gallon, so maybe $2.50 a fillup. Well worth it.

The timing changes with the ECU can crate the potential for detonation (knock) when running lower octane fuels. There's a reason they strongly suggest higher octane with that ECU.

The ecu will also retard the timing if you use lower octane fuel. Its strongly recomeded because there is no power gain if u don't use premium. Plus its not my car I just fix all of its problems

well sounds like something i will look into after i fix the rust on the car (mainly the panel in the engine bay that the passenger mount is on) and get my mx-3 running those two are more important but i think i will do this after

I'm pretty sure whatever tiny improvement in fuel economy will take a long time to offset the initial cost of the ECU.

If you want a bit more power and smoother powerband then do it. Just to get better fuel economy? Not worth it.

BTW, why are you running 91 octane gas anyway?
