Moving to Aurora

yes, but you moved to gurnee. why anyone would consciously make the choice to move to gurnee is beyond me. no offense to anyone who lives in gurnee (andy; but his parents live there so he has to live there) its just getting way too overcrowded with people who thibk their s*** doesnt stink.

i really dont like gurnee much at all. i hate the neighborhood i live in. im just glad im closer to third lake and grayslake than the mall, 94, 41 and all that s***.

And it is different where you live? Pretty much all of Northeastern Illinois faces this problem. And actually their s*** does stink because in front of the police station the water/waste facility smells of dead ass. (pukey)

I do not think Gurnee is that bad compared to other cities in the area. At least they have the mall & the theme park.

actually i live in kenosha, and it isnt anywhere as bad as gurnee. like ken said, i grew up in lake county and lived there for over 20 years and the doenward spiral into urban sprawl drives me infinitely crazy.

i'm not sure at this point where i'd move. closer to chicago is definetely not an option from every angle, kenosha looks like it'd make my commute into morning murder and lake county is just disgustingly overpriced for what you get. after christmas thankfully nikole and i will have plenty of time and a cushion of sorts to think that through. i have a real simple solution for myself that would work for me but not for her and for us, so oh well :(

I hate to do this to you my friend.

2003 Population for Gurnee: 30,000
2003 Population for Kenosha: over 93,000

Now we have to find out the square footages for both cities to find out if they are overcrowded in terms of size to people.

What I am trying to say protejay5 is that you cannot escape it. It is the Chicago metropolitan area and all the cities are growing in shocking numbers.

i can tell you that kenosha county's infastructure is far better than lake county's ever will be. traffic is dispersed more widely, flows much easier and faster and the urban layout is better. kenosha built based on a grid (streets go one way, avenues go the other, etc) whereas lake county's DOT smoked a joint or two, put down subdivisions and shopping centers first, waited a few years to widen the existing roads, took forever to do that, and is just now starting to build new roads to handle the congestion, all while still offering massive grants to yet more housing and businesses to further tax and wear on the county's disorganized infastructure system. there's no rhyme or reason to encouraging growth without properly matching an infastructure to handle it other than simple greed. factor in that waukegan has over 100,000 people coming into 2004 and most of those people come through gurnee to hit the interstate...its a mess.

granted, kenosha and racine have been around a very very long time. whenever i drive up there around that city, its a whole different world than the lunacy shoved down our throats down here.

population really has no meaning here becasue you are forgetting that kenosha does not have a huge mall or theme park/water park that brings millions of tourists per year, not to mention the masses of people from the surrounding areas (grayslake, waukegan, no. chicago, zion, libertyville, etc) that visit gurnee for some reason or another on a daily basis.

like ken said, its all about infrastructure. kenosha does not have a traffic problem what-so-ever. lake county is just getting around to widening major streets because they are just realizing that the thousands of subdivisions they built require larger roads for all of the people to drive on. its insanity.

im not saying that kenosha is better than gurnee or anything like that, im just saying that i dread going to gurnee for any reason because i know driving there is going to be pure hell.

so I guess no mazda team bbq at my place eh?

jose I love how you put it - "people from the surrounding areas (grayslake, waukegan, no. chicago, zion, libertyville, etc) that visit gurnee for some reason or another on a daily basis." lol

You are right Jose. Population is a whole different thing. Peace and by the way I am one of those people "from the other areas." lol

Traffic definitely sucks around here. On a weekday on my way to work, 4 miles away, it takes me 15 minutes to get there, I go through 9 stop lights. Gurnee driving is bleh.

im guilty of being one of those 'people from surrounding areas' on occasion. every is because when they build something in lake county they always build it on grand avenue in gurnee so that you are forced to go there if you need anything.

Right now I am glad I live in Gurnee. Grayslake sucks right now with the fair going on. It took me 30 minutes to get down Center Street and if I took any other way, it will be the same. Really I do not have a problem with gurnee and the traffic. You have to expect that when you move to an area that is more convenince with all the stores. I like have stores closer and not so far away like we had in Woodstock and even that had traffic. There is noithing to do there, so how do you explain the traffic there? Soi lets not complain any more.
