Mount How-To

wicked write up mate, ive just slotted home a new engine, and i put all the mounts in, hated it to start off with but since theyve settled down i love them. only have the problem of the left side ones popping out lol, so im gonna follow ure guide and cable tie them in. is it safe to just undo that one mount and get it out sort it and wack it back in, or would u defo suggest using a winch etc? i dont wanna take it off and the engine drop onto the floor lol

definatly have some sort of engine holding device installed. thanks for the props man. i thought this would clear up any cunfusion

The 3 red arrows are truly bitches of the whole install, if I could get that damn bolt off, I wouldn't have had to spend 3 hrs on that 1 damn mount.

yes, those damn bolts made me angry. very angry. but it is all worth it when you finally get them installed and your car transforms into a beast. i am not going to even attempt the rear.

It definitely makes the engine sound more pronounce when you turn on the engine. My sister got in the car and when I started it up, she was like, what did you do? She didn't believe all I did was put in some new inserts. And I agree, I'm probably not going to attempt the rear mount just because of all the pita issues I've heard from it.

You will when the front and side mounts and/or inserts cause the back to rip to shreds. The wheel hop will come back and it will be pretty bad.

enteresting. because since the front mount is now a solid mount, not rubber, and bolted directly to the frame, the motor shouldnt tear the rear, at all really. And if it does, i will probably pay someone to do it, cause i aint!

I could be wrong.....it's what happened to me. It may have been for other reasons but many people told me that my back would be rubbish after some time. I dunno.

It makes sense. The front one doesn't flex anymore, so the rear is dealing with all of the shock. It flexes more now, etc.

How about the rear mount .. who has done it themselves ?

Tried and failed miserably today. I got the throttle body off and then after inspecting everything and thinking about it, a friend and I both were wondering how we'd get to the rest so we just stopped there. POS mount that's located way in the back and with little room to work with.

Now, Drivers side mount......

This one just pisses me right f off......
You have to remove these first, in this order.
1. Strut brace
2. Intake Box thing and filter
3. Battery
4. Then battery tray (duh)
5. Battery Tray.

It should look like this BEFORE you begin

I am going to do side inserts in the next two weeks and I was wondering- does all of this really have to come out? Can't you reach all of the bolts on the mount with a little Gumby-like flexibility and slide the mount out, leave the tranny section and then slide it back in? I gave the area a once-over today and thought this might be the case, but has anyone tried it this way? I would rather not remove the strut brace, battery and tray if I can avoid it!

I WILL RETORQUE these after about 500 miles, then 2000 after that.....
(headbang) (drive2) (headbang)

Uhmm....is it necessary to retorque them after 500 and 2000 miles? whats the effect of doing so?
you know...that means you have to go back in there again, especially the drive side and the rear...

Hey MazdaSpeeder, if you found a way to avoid taking them all out, let me know. :D I know it's something to get used to when working on small car but still...u know...avoid the avoidable...(I just made that up...)

Hey, I'm all for 'avoiding the unavoidable' :) but I haven't had a chance to do my side mounts yet...I'm waiting for a little warmer weather (doing a header install in mid-jan was enough for me) and an engine hoist. But when I get to it, if I can do it without removing all of the other stuff, I'll post it here.
