motormount question

Springs weren't too bad, I had some help with those when I did mine a couple years back, and although we spent 6hrs doing them, it was just to make sure everything was in the right place. I also actually broke something under the hood too, I broke the stupid battery tie down bolt. It just snapped while I was putting it back together which really sucked. So tomorrow, I'll be heading to Home Depot to get a small threaded bolt, drill a new hole and remount the stupid battery tie down.

I broke that same thing when cleaning the battery! I just drilled a hole in the strut bar bracket and put a bolt and nut there to secure the tie-down. I think the design really sucks.

Post about how you are going to fix yours. Here's how I fixed mine. I know it's really ghetto :( but it works. It's all I had at the time and I had to drive to the airport (loser)

oh, yeah. kind of off topic, but i am going to be painting my valve cover too while im in the process... should i worry about getting a new gasket or will the original be fine?

i painted mine and didnt need a new one, then i changed the timing belt and it will need a new one if i take it off again... which im going to have to, to take the paint off and pollish it (pissed) high-heat paint MY ASS

well if you get indigo light weight pulleys your a/c doesnt affect your horse power at all if any. with the stock pulleys everytime i used my a/c i felt the loss in power now its barely even noticeable.

agreed. my car has no will to live with the a/c turned on
AC only on the highway for me (whip)
might sound dumb...

when do you know you need new motor mounts?

Do you have a manual transmission? If you experience engine movement (loud thump coming from under the hood) between shifts, especially when driving the car aggressively, ask your doctor...errr you probably want to consider getting stiffer mounts.

hmm

i do have manny

it does thump once in a while, if i release the clutch too quick (if im shifting a little carelessly)
that is normal though, right?

I think it is, I get that sound too when I let the pedal out too quick sometimes.

Engine movement is different. Think bucking, except it's when you're trying to shift at high RPM, which is when your engine is putting out the most power and the stress on the motor mounts is greatest. The stock mounts flex too much and the engine will move quite a bit (along with the transmission) under these conditions.

For me it used to result in extremely rough shifts and just hearing and feeling the motor rock back and forth.

Basically, you NEED at least a front mount if you're any kind of "car" guy. Trust us here. (whip)

To add, your stock mounts are probably torn by now anyway. And stock replacements will be just as crappy.

i've had my car for a year

theres no rattle at all when i shift, 3500rpm or almost redline

no rattling, unless - i unclutch to quick

so, will the front mount make any difference?
and where would a front mount go?

i know about suspension for my car
a little over common knowledge for engine stuff

just nothing about mounts or pulleys or belts or following speedlimits

dude. honestly. i didnt know if i needed them or not. but for 85 bucks for rr fornt inserts na AWR sides, ill let you know what will be unleashed...(lick)

im sure it will be a great purchase...(kiss)

Try searching for a pic. I can take one if necessary. Basically, the front mount is right behind the radiator, inside the engine bay. If you have stock intake, you won't be able to see it.

I'd say the front mount makes a world of difference. Shifts are much smoother, no wheel hop if you try to launch hard. You'd have to try it to believe it...more solid throttle response.

I would recommend installing the front first and driving around with it for a couple weeks to break it in. Then install the rest. Otherwise it might be a bit too much vibes at first, but maybe not. (stash)

never feel dumb for asking a stupid question. just kidding. well just look at the mounts. all are easy to see except the back one. if they look in any way torn you need new mounts. if you drive standard and your shifter bounces you need new mounts. if you drive standard and when you shift and evryone takes bow you need new mounts. but the easiest ay to tell is just to look at them. oh yea if they're stock you need new mounts.

i looked at the awr on protegegarage

best suggestion on stiffness level?

for best launch, ride comfort/shift

would you want softer or stiffer?
