motormount question

i understand by now the front motormount is a necessity on our proteges. i was also wondering how much of an imporovement the side inserts make?

thanks.

I've read that the sides help cut back on the cab rattle, but I've got no experience with them...

Had the front for over a year. I'd recommend at least the front and rear to balance out the F-R motion.

Have no experience with side inserts myself.

thanks guys. thats all i needed to know. just placed my order on front and side inserts. now the waiting begins...(smash)

I know that people go round and round about this, but I have heard that SLS vibrate less than the AWR but I hear a lot of people going with the AWR and there have been instances of breakage lately with the SLS (weld failing). The StreatUnit Front Mount is supposedly better on vibration than the AWR but stronger than the SLS. I would love to hear some thoughts...I will definitely do the front at some point, but I would like to have the option of adding side or even rear mounts as well, and would like to stay in the same company for all the mounts. Are side inserts really a good option for reducing vibration...I use a/c sometimes, need to reduce my drivetrain lash but I DON'T want to feel .like I am riding a blender whenever I drive. I would love to hear some thoughts.

you can get softer inserts from AWR so it doesnt vibrate as much. when you first put them in its really bad, but it settles down after a while

motor mounts are awesome. dont know much about the awr side inserts but they will stiffen up your ride. read those threads with the sls mounts cracking. i do believe its isolated events. i got the sls front and passenger side motoe mount and i love umm. no problems as of yet "3000+miles" and i pound the sh!t out of my car. i even let my cousin and her friend attempt to learn how to drive standard for the first time and the put the mounts to the test for about an hour. no breakage on either mounts. you will get a lot more vibrations through your car. people see this as a down side but i like it.

I'm pretty happy with the RR-Racing inserts (front and back). Keep in mind that any mount is going to break in a lot, but it's going to take A WHILE! For example, my mounts are are just now becoming civil (close to stock). And it took about 2 months of drivng ~70 miles per day.

LOL. Learning to drive with mounts like that would be crazy! As in "intense."

yuppies it was hilarious watching my car act more like a boat on rough waters. im sure all that clutch popping, transmission jerking, and spinnig 19's would have broke the mounts if they were defective.

although my clutch did take a beatings im upgrading soon.

I've had RR inserts & SLS front/side. The biggest eliminator of vibration would be getting a flex fitting on the midpipe, whether factory or aftermarket exhaust. Spring bolts FTL. The SU set looks mighty nice, just not much feedback on them due to less people having them, yet.

okay guys, i ordered the rr front inserst and the awr side inserts for a total of: chaching 85$ even. not too bad, now i have to just wait for em...

Too bad you aren't closer, today I'm going to do the side inserts and I still have to get to the rear insert sometime... Sveivo, is it hard to do?

The rear? I cheated and took it to a mechanic. Took him about an hour. I paid $50. Well worth it :)

Lucky, I spent 4 hrs doing doing the driver side mount because the last bolt on the inside of the mount and no matter what type of socket I used so finally I gave up and broke the bolts on the transmission to take out the bracket. Along with breaking the bolts loose, I broke my dad's socket wrench and cut up 2 fingers. Overall though, it's fun, just time consuming and painful if you don't have the right tools.

Those were my feelings. I didn't want to break something under the hood. That would be bad.

I did tackle a spring install, however. It seems there's not as much "know how" or technique involved there. Just brute force at times :D

the only thing i didn't do myself was timing belt and wheel alignment. i dont trust those shady mechanics to "fix" my car for me (glare)

Springs weren't too bad, I had some help with those when I did mine a couple years back, and although we spent 6hrs doing them, it was just to make sure everything was in the right place. I also actually broke something under the hood too, I broke the stupid battery tie down bolt. It just snapped while I was putting it back together which really sucked. So tomorrow, I'll be heading to Home Depot to get a small threaded bolt, drill a new hole and remount the stupid battery tie down.
