Motorized Hatch

what about a small pnuematic system to do it, instead of motorized actuators, maybe that would not be as expensive? (shrug)

I hate pimp my ride. They do the stupidest things to those cars. The use up all the valuable storage space for garbage, the put the biggest heaviest wheels on there that they can, then they give it some gawdy paint job. And when the former rust-bucket is clean and shiny, they add a bottle of Q oil to boost the performance and revitalaize the engine.

The best car modding show is Tuner Transformation. They actually do cool stuff.

These two shows have entirely different purposes. Have you ever seen pimp my ride work on the engine for performance gains other then getting it running again? The whole show is about rice lol. Although i hate the paint jobs and some the lame ideas you gotta give it up to them for workmanship.

My fiance cant stand watching Pimp My Ride cuz she hates the fact that they do all of these cosmetic upgrades but never mention touching the engine. So yeah...you've got a pimped out car that sounds like a weed eater.......stupid

Anyone remember "The Walton's" episode where Jim-Bob built a complete hot rod out of parts he found in a dump? Sewing machines, old tube radios and discarded sawmill parts. Now that was the original "Tuner Transformation" (rockon)

i like tuner transformation. i never saw them do any stereo stuff or led purge kits. i saw them take a nice STI remove the wing the scoop put a fmic paint the rims black and retuned it. that thing was a bad ass sleeper. i dont see much rice in that. are we talking about the same show? its on the speed channel right?

they also did a 340 hp SRT-4.

tuner transformation is:

cool enough car + stupid ass graphics + cheap ass stereo system + ugly rims that you dont even get to keep + NO2 on everything with a gay ass LED purge kit + bolt on exhaust

What do you have when your done?

The biggest version of RICE I've ever seen

Just my opinion

I also saw them ruin a Rx-8 with ghey ass vinyl graphics (chair)

pimp my ride sux, except for Xzibit, I find him amusing.

A perfect example of why it sux is at the beginning of the CRX show. X 2 the Z is explaining how Civic's are probably the most popular "tuner" cars out there and so on and so on, but while he's talking about Civic's, they cut to these shots of the 2 cars that he was standing in front of, a Hyundai Tiburon and Mitsu Evo. Can't even show a pic of another Honda? WTF?

That Pacer was ruined also. They rigged up a body kit for the front & rear, but didn't even bother with side skirts. The front was at least about 6"s lower than the sides sans kit.

One more thing, I love American Hot Rod, mostly for the drama. Boyd comes off as such an asshole boss always promising impossible deadlines for his crew to meet. Everytime!! The dude that was in the car accident that mangled his face up so he talks funny now is HILARIOUS!

i watch it for entertainment. have you noticed everytime they opent he door they're all dressed up nice and stuff... if it were me id be in a wife beater and boxers... i doubt anybody would really have that kind of reaction when they see it.

Thats one of the ones I seen them do. I did not see the STI one or the srt-4 one. Those sound ok, I seen the rx-8 one and a couple others... o'ya a Sentra spec -v (they gayed it out) and something else... cant remember.

pnuematics would open it, but closing it would be very expensive. Because now you are talking about a sytem with a pump and switches and lines to push and pull the fluid in and out, sensors to stop it when its closed....

I think that if i just put some heavier struts on my hatch i could get it to open on its own when i hit the button. That would still be pretty cool.

Maybe I'll pick up some and let you guys know how it goes.

I don't think closing it would be too hard. You could get a spring return one, or a double acting one to do it. Would you really need sensors for the stops? It should just stop when it is fully extended. I'm just kinda brainstorming, and no I've never set up any kind of pneumatic system.

i've always wanted to get my hands on a pro5 and do lambo doors up front and gullwing the rears just like the back hatch. then fiberglass the s*** out of the inside and make it an all out balls to the walls show car

double acting usually require a latch per say to release them. Also they are salty too. Yes it will stop when its fully open, but the odds of a strut being fully compressed when closed are slim to none. There is always a little extra so your not bottoming out your strut. If ia pnuematic did keep going till it bottomed out it and it was not the exact right size, it would just bend or break your car or itself.

Ive done some pnuematic controlled stuff at work and its not exactly a precion thing unless you get into high end computer controlled stuff

I should p-shop that to see how it'd look. Probably pretty cool!
