87 RX7 GXL
ok so ive just barely bought my first rx7, its an 87 gxl, im a honda guy so ive kinda stuck with crx's, civics etc... and i know all about motor swaps for those but not mazdas, question is how hard is it to pull my N/A motor and swap in a turbo 2 and any refrences for a good price on a long block would be much appreciated.

make sure you stick with a S4 turbo engine otherwise there will be some rewiring involved. Also make sure you get the trans and driveshaft as its stronger.

SIMPLE... If you dont have emissions you can use a S5 engine and all u have to do is lenghten the tps connecter.. I did a cross series swap in my RX7 piece of cake. the turbo trans hads a diff cross member (mustache bar) but it bolts right in. eveything is bolt in plug and play..

I am currently doing ANOTHER turbo swap into my RX7 and let me tell u this one is more elaborate but still as easy..

check up my build thread here if u have any questions..

you can jump across series with little upfit. the main thing is swapping USDM to JDM. that will cause you some wiring issues that are quite a bit harder than cross-series.

It's not simple. Here's the differences:

460 to 550 injectors x4
Different fuel pump
Flywheel size is wider on Turbo (along with starter being different) - This requires either swapping the NA flywheel back on the Turbo motor or swapping the turbo driveline in
ECU is different
Wiring harness is different
The exhaust is different

The list goes on. :)
