Motor Oil, What to use, what to buy whats better

Mobil One 5w30 with Mobil One filter.
If you start to smell the oil is burnt when you pull the dipstick, I would up to 10W30. I burnt some 5W30 Mobil and it was even in the spring. That was two years ago and now I run 30W.

Not telling you what to do, just giving a caution.

Royal Purple probably can't covince anyone but in my opinion its the best lubricant for cars.

Mobil1, Amsoil, Royal Purple... they are all good oils. The Ams and RP are probaly a bit better than the Mobil1, but any one will do. I use the M1 5w-30 in the winter, 10w-30 in the summer. Some people will run 5-30 all year, some 10-30 all year, etc etc.

Or just simply use good ol dino (not a synthetic or blend) type of oil, and change your oil like a religion at 3000 miles. The synthtic is nice, just because it will take it more time to turn/ build up acidity, which is why they say you can lengthen the oil changes.

Carefull, oil (and oil filters) is like a religion. Read as much as you can find on it, then make your own decsions.

I use OEM filters from good ol' mazda....and run Penzoil 10W-30.....and change both every 3000 miles religiously.

AMSoil (change every 10k!), and AMSoil filters (change every 5k)

Thanks Brian...I appreciate the input. I decided to go with 5w30 after looking at the temp range in the owner's manual. We don't get that hot down here, so I should be fine. I change the oil and filter at 5000 miles, so I don't think I have any protection issues.

i read a study on oils by a nonbaised researcher, and from his findings Amsoil is the best oil to use. Mobil 1 came in a very close second.

im talkin synthetics of course.

also said the best filter by a long shot is an Amsoil filter. ill see if i can find the document and post it

did a lil search, here it is:http://www.motor-oil-bible.com/mob-2-2-04.pdf

If you can get your hands on royal purple, go for it. It is the best stuff. When I lived in texas, you could pick it up at any NAPA auto store. Here in Michigan, it is impossible to come by so I use mobil 1 10W30.
