Motor Mounts

Mazda Protege LX 03'
I need everyones opinion. I am pretty i am right on this but, i live on the side of a mountain in brimingham so i go up down a hill alot into my complex. If and when i have to stop on the hill and i start again my whole car shakes as i am letting out of the clutch. I have really never had this problem i have been driving a stick since i have been driving. Could this mean that i need new motor mounts or is it my clutch which i doubt seeing as how i just got it replaced when my tranny was rebuilt about 8 months ago. I also have trouble shifting into 2nd sometimes as well as going into reverse. So what do you guys think?

Proteges use 4 motor mounts- so getting "it" (implying ONE) replaced, might not have been good enough. The front is especially prone to tearing. When I replaced mine, the front and passenger side mounts were torn.

yeah sorry i ment to say them. it was early and i hadn't had coffee yet. I plan on doing them all but i was just making sure you guys agreed with me. anyone else?????

I've never heard of the front going. My first was the passenger side and then the rear. That is most likely your problem. If it was your clutch or flywheel you would mostly feel it easing out from a stop in the clutch pedal.

right cause it works fine on flat ground but anytime the engine has to torque and work to move the car is when i get this hoping feeling which is not the wheels

buy the awr's of protegegarage and call it a day. i still need to replace my back one but i had horrible motor lashing due to the front and rear stock ones being shot. that should eliminate your problem.

I replaced my front mount, not knowing it was torn, but once I got it out it sure was. I haven't gotten to the others yet but im pretty sure my side mounts are torn by now, and getting just the front one done did help but im sure it helped tear the others as well.

im sure it did help tear the others...at least the rear anyway. i got the rear sittin on the kitchen table. i can garuntee you that the front tore my rear one the rest of the way to hell.

Mounts will help - BUT to truly fix the 'clutch chatter' issue - you need a new pressure plate/flywheel. Me? I will do it when the clutch is worn or i can't stand it anymore. It only happens when cold - that first launch of the day. Unitl then - I just slip the clutch more...

but if the motor mounts are bad it will increase like ten fold. i had both mounts bad and my clutch chatter was horrible. put the front one in and it went "away". now that the rear is shot completely the chatter has gone back to bad. but yes....new clutch and pressure plate/flywheel will be the TRUE fix for it.

I think that could be the problem, like i said my tranny was just rebuilt new new pressure plate new flywheel new clutch ......unless he guy jipped me on those parts, now i have my doubts

yeah start with the mounts. a good investment in my opnion anyway. ill have to take a picture and put it up for you to show had fudged mine were.

Yes please post pics of the defective ones. Please also make recommendations for possible replacements parts. Thanks!

Yeah, I'm having the same issue on the first few launches of the day... what's a good way of diagnosing the mounts versus the pressure plate/flywheel issue?

Pop you're hood and take a look at the mounts! The passenger side is right there up top and thew rear can be seen down under the intake manifold with a flashlight or even better from under the car.

I know the feeling you are having and mine does it too sometimes. My pro has about 115000 on ot and the mounts are worn. Im planning on changing all of mine out soon. I do suspension work for a living and have found out that if you change 1 motor mount, you are better off just changing them all out at one time. I know it is spendy, but if you think about it, all of the Rubber bushings have the same amount of miles on them and have been subjected to the same amount of torquing and heat.

Well I changed all mine except the back, which will be changed when i put in my new intake mani. which is waiting for me to P&P. I can already feel a difference, there is no chatter on take off or when i am on hills. I would deff say go witht he AWR if you are having the same problems i was.

passenger side engine mount

This might be a little off topic, but does anyone know if the passenger side engine mount has any fluid in it?

My wife drove the car up on a median and appears to have smashed the underneath part of engine into the curb.

upon inspection i see fluid which seems to be coming from inside the aforementioned mount.
