Motor mounts

They are not to bad you give up guiet running but they last. I have about 10,000 miles on mine dont really notice it to much anymore until someone gets in and points out to me again.

I just ordered mine from Sam, but I ordered the 70 durometer. Those are a little softer than the AT (88) and MT (95). I'm doing front and rear for sure, and thinking about the side inserts as well. From everything I've read, 70's are the way to go for a street car.

It took me at least an hour to just get the rear mount off. Its not the mount thats the PITA to get off, its the damn wiring harness that covers the bolts.

None of my mounts bolted straight up without a bind either. What I did was get a long flathead screwdriver (must be strong) and stick it through the mount where the bolt goes through. It will give you the leverage needed to line up the holes in the mount w/ the holes in the brackets so you can get the bolt through(it will take a lot of force to line it up if it's really off like mine was). Once I got the first hole lined up, I would push the bolt against the tip of the screw driver until the bolt backed the screwdriver out and took it's place. It took a couple of trys to get the bolt through the second hole because you cannot get as much leverage on it w/ the screwdriver, but if your patient it will work. If you have a friend around to move the screwdriver, it helps a lot.

Rear install question? Does it help to lift the engine up a bit either with a hoist or down below with a block of wood and a jack? A few tapered punches would help line up the holes.

I have to get a set of mounts soon. I have over 51K and its getting harder to keep the wheels planted under hard acceleration.

the side motor mounts support the weight of the engine, the front and rear mounts keep the motor from rocking forward and back. It might help you a little to jack it up, but not much since the front and rear mounts don't hold any weight.

IIRC, both the front & rear m.mounts on my car wouldn't bolt right up because it was off lateraly and not horizontaly

Dang, i'm gonna have to look into getting motor mounts. So, is the vibration really that bad with the AWR ATX front AND rears?? Cuz it certainly seems like its best to get both... but i don't wanna rattle my teeth loose either.

-Threadjack- haze20, those wheels look sweeeet, what kind are they??

They are Enkei RPO3's in the SBC finish. -Threadjack over-

Ok, I ordered the AWR Rear ATX Motor Mount. It was 80 +15 S&H. S/B in 5 or 6 days(cheers)

Yea... I have my rear mount (70) sitting in the box still. I wish I had the time to do it myself... probably just gonna take it some where. Just curious, what tools do you need to put in the rear? Any tips or tricks incase I do do them myself?

I finally started the project. I spent a couple hours on the bottom wire harness bolt then I had my neighbor help me. 45 minutes later the plastic pain in the arse was OUT. I will do the motor mount some other time (after I forget how fun this was so far).(deadhorse

I installed the rear mount yesterday and did the EGR Valve cleanout at the same time. (After test drive) I can't wait for the rear mount to break in a little bit! On a side note: How can you tell the durometer of the motor mount? Are they color coded for the 3 versions? Do we just have to trust the supplier?
