Motor knocking??

I was working under the hood yesterday with the motor running and i the motor sounded unusually noisy, so i brought it up to about 2500rpm or so and it sounded almost like a knock. Do all our engines seem to make a lot of noise and im just noticing or do I have some issues here?? The cars still totally stock and i dont beat on it too much so i cant understand why it would be knocking.

My motor makes alot of noise on cold starts. I think it's just piston slap due to cold weather. It takes a few minutes for the motor to adjust to the clearances going from cold to hot. (metal expands with heat )

I always here a slight ticking from under the hood, regardless of the temperature. It is only valvetrain noise, but knock is serious.

I don't really agree here, since i've had to start the engine in -30 -40C (not counting wind factor), and other than the fact that it only seemed to have half the battery power, it never made any knocking noises. If your dealer isn't too far, make him take a look at it; play it safe...

take it in to the dealer if it is a loud knocking sound. I had the same knocking sound and it turned out that one of my rod bearings took a bad pie.

yep thats what happened to me, the bearings, they just gave me a new motor.

lucky you. Mazda wasnt so gracious with me lol. Now im out close to 6K .

But that included the items in my sig so im not complaining (laugh)

Yeah i have the same issue...i have this knocking noise coming from the motor..sounds like its a diesel car..well not that loud but its loud. it only happens after the car get warmed up..but if it is what your saying about a rod will they still cover my warranty after the find out that i have a MBC,INTAKE,BOV..

are you sure it's not lifter tick? my lifters have been making noise since day 1 for me when there were 12 miles on it

well theres too many noise coming from the motor..the boost cut off is ticking and i can hear ticking also from the motor but like you said it could be the lifters but why are they knocking...on my trans am they knock cuz they are the racing kind but i dont think these should right?

I also hear the "valve tapping", but ive also noticed that since i got the car. This sounds like a random knock.

I would say the answer to that inquiry is a big ole HELL NO!
You better pull all of that s*** off or you can kiss that warranty goodbye. It would be a rare thing for Mazda to replace a motor with a BC of any kind. You might get away with the intake but the BOV would have to go as well. Anything that has to do with boost would probally bring you no end of hurt from Mazda.
Some dealers might cover it but I wouldn't bet on it.

I am not trying to be an ASS but I know that anything boost related that could in any way shape or form have contributed to the failure of a motor (if it is a bearing) would not be covered without a fight. There are rules Mazda is supposed to follow but it costs money to enforce rules and thus unless you get a Judge on your side Mazda would just side step them.

8600 lol. I would take off your mods and take it to the dealer. That way if more people take their cars in, maybe they will have leinency with the others of us.

That is pretty strange since Over Head Cam engines don't have lifters.

since when? SOME don't, not all
