Mother Nature battled my MS6..

Well yesturday a hail storm came through my area in Arkansas. I am still deployed so my car is at my parents house. They both have new cars and I was pushed to the driveway. After the storm (when pops got home) my car was covered in leaves upon further inspection there is some hail damage.

There are about 15 small dents on the hood and about 5 on the trunk and roof. This is a terrible feeling. Does anyone have any advice on the proper way to fix this. Is one way better than the other? I have full coverage insurance. Just want to make sure it is done right.

Find a good bodyshop.

the good thing is that some travelling body shops/dent removal vans work by panels, as long as there is no paint work required, a good body shop may only charge you 100-150 per panel.

There is an MS3 guy on this site that lives in Arkansas and said his car got completely thrashed. 200+ dents... That's rough.

Yea, it has to be a creaseless dent. The idea for some who may not know is you're using the temperature delta of the dryice versus the hot sun to contract the metal and bend itself back out.

Just an FYI if you're going to try it, get a pair of insulated metal tongs first. Don't need anyone coming back with fewer digits than when they started.

you can hold dry ice in your bare hands, its not Liquid Nitrogen, you just cant keep contact with it for more than 5 seconds in the same place. use dish gloves for dexterity.

Is your car paid for?

If it is, you can collect the money and use for mods! (that is if you dont care about the minor dents)

If it isnt and there is a loan out, insurance will require you to fix it.

Dont try dry ice. It is a myth. Find a good paintless dent repair guy and have it done correctly!!!

While I don't doubt your history in paintless dent repair, dry ice is no myth. Living in the Midwest, I have had the opportunity on several ocassions to do this myself, first-hand.

It will not work on every dent, but it does indeed work.

PDR would be the best way, however it's very pricey. Some should be covered by your insurance company via a comprehensive claim.

Sounds like you didnt get it very bad, i guess its hard to tell without seeing pictures. Insurance use to fork out a good 1700-3500 depending on damage. I had a program on my laptop where I could measure out a 1 foot square section, count how many dents, average the size of the dents and it would give a good estimate of what it would cost. This is most of the time the same program the insurance companies use. Now your family members may say theres only a few on there, but most of the time, the average person has a hard time seeing the very small, shallow lows that can be caused by the smaller hail stones. So it may be much worse then what you think. But dont fret it, its always fixable. Ive seen some VERY VERY bad cars in my days traveling that turn out to look 99% like new. Yea, I've got a very, very small one on my car that was there when I purchased it. You can only see it in the right light with a reflection on it. I can only imagine having been through a hail storm there'd be tons you never see until you've already filed your insurance.

Yea, that is another worry of mine. I am trying to get some pics to post on here. I am going to try to find someone that can do PDR I just hope none are on an edge or a place they cant fix. But we will see. Have to make sure I wash it real good befor I take it in so you can see every little ding.

It wont matter if its on a edge. They can all be fixed man. I have seen some amazing things done before.

Do a youtube search on Paintless Dent Repair. Look around a little bit. It will alleviate all worries you may have.

If you go to a quality pdr guy, dont worry about them not being able to see it, special lights and reflectors will show every little imperfection on the surface. Just be sure not to go to a fly by night operation, there are some HACKS out there that will ripple the paint and stuff. Take it somewhere that has a very good reputation, it will be well worth it.

I am going to look into it after work today. I called my brother and he looked at it real close and the whole drivers side has real small dents on it. But thanks 1quickturbosix for the reassurance. This type of thing suck to happen to you a terrible feeling. It makes it worse that I cant be there. I will see it in person next week and will keep everyone updated,
