How important is this piece? Can I glue it back on? And do these gears look lined
up enough to put the case back on?

I'm pretty sure that piece is critical to the gear oil getting where it needs to go.

FWIW, I'd ditch that Shockproof and use something else.

What's shockproof? So i will need a new piece? It cant be glued? Anyone now the part number,or better yet what it's called?

Actually, I'm not sure if that's Shockproof gear oil or not, but it looks blue. I was recently given a lot of info on it on the GTX forum. Here's the info from another discussion on it: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2564244&postcount=26

Sorry for the TJ. I'm not 100% sure about that part. That's right under the housing/cover for 5th and reverse, right? I would check with Turfburn, CustomMSP and/or a couple of others who are known to have experience with our tranny. Also check the MSP A/V section for Montgomery Mazda, they can be very helpful in tracking down part numbers. I don't know if you can get that part by itself or not. I would not recommend glueing it, but I'm no expert.

yeah,I broke that my first time taking a protege trans apart,no biggy, just go pickup a new one.

Hey man,

That plastic oil tray is very important. The input shaft bearings will fry themselves in about 2k miles without it. It will cost you about $30 from the dealer. I would not use glue, because you never know how it will hold up under the heat and the oil. See what Ken at protegegarage.com can do for you.

Good luck.

What the heck happened to that tranny? The 5th gear drive gear surface looks like it ate a bearing?

Also, something about that 4th pic doesn't sit right with me. It has been awhile since I have looked at one though.
