more mazda2 spy shots

Those photos are a few months old though. I was hoping for some new more revealing goodness...!

Not good news at all... longer, taller, extended wheelbase AND softer? Sounds like a Honda Fit.

I could probably deal with the 160mm increase in length and the 80mm in wheel base; but 25mm taller? No thanks. Unless the higher performace version he is speaking of is the MS2 and it comes with a 30mm (or more) lower ride height, sport suspension AND the 175ish HP in the rumor bucket. Then I may be on the hook again..

Hrmm. Looks harder to install a roll cage in this one without chopping up the dash.

I am underwhelmed as well. Looks like it's gonna lose a lot of its character.

Edit: But if there's a speed version...

I like the fact that the air vents carried over (in similar form) from the concept. I know that harks back a bit to the older Miatas (and the newer ones, if they have those vents...I'm not sure :P). The car seems more "grown up" in this guise, but the interior is fundamentally the same, except for the new instrument cluster and the infotainment system. The new body is nice, but the dimensions don't offer any more interior accommodation, nor did Mazda decide to put a bigger engine in under the hood with the bit of extra length I perceived in the nose. I said this in the ongoing thread stemming from the concept reveal: It doesn't seem like anything radical, and I think it's worth just putting the money in toward setting right what this new model does than trading up to the new 2. If the SkyActiv powertrain saves it (I was hugely impressed with how the 3 drives with the new setup), then I may change my tune.

But for now, I'm just sort of meh...

I actually don't like that interior very much...I'm a fan of the big stereo/nav display, but I really don't like the single-gauge instument panel. I tend to judge how fast I'm going based on the relative position of the speedo needle and a digital numeric display would totally annoy me.
