Mono vs. Stereo setup for Subs

As for the amp, I wouldn't try to run 2 500w subs off a 4 channel amp with only 660w. The best bet is to get a 2 channel amp that is rated at least to match the power of the subs and maybe more and back it off.

Is a 2 channel amp the best way to go if the 2 subs are dual coil?

It can be it depends on the subs and the amp. Basicly you want an amp tha gives you the most power at the imedance your subs will be. Basicly you have dual 4 ohm voice coil drivers so you can wire a 1 hom load or a 4 ohm load. This mean you want an amp that s at its best at one of these impedances. A typical Kenwood 2 channel would do well bridged to your subs. A JL500/1 would rock since it gives the same power anywhere between 4 and 1.5 ohms. but the overall best performace is seen at 4 ohms.

Here we go..Its time for KzA to ask another newb question..I recently bought two 12" Audiobahn AW1206Q Subs (Yes, the ones with that flamed, chromed basket thingy)..The specs are as follows:
Power Handling: 1100 Watts RMS
Impedance: Dual 4ohm Voice Coil (2ohm or 8ohm operation)
Frequency Response: 20Hz-500Hz

I have a few questions..
1)What are my amp choices? What would I want to buy if money wasn't an option? What would I want to buy if money was an option?
2)I'm going to build a box for these myself....Will going sealed instead of ported make a HUGE difference?

Becuase I like staying within a brand, the Audio Bahn A18001DQ, would do the job wired to a 1 ohm load. Retal is $1000. If that thing takes only 4 guage though it isn't capable of over 1000 watts. I'd have to see the manual to know for sure.

The least you can get away with would be a A2601Q costs $489, once again I don't realy trust it since it claims almost 500 watts rms wiht 8 guage once again impossible.

I personaly would use 2 JL audio 1000/1 for no limit
For limit a JL 500/1

If your only going SPL then 2 MTX 8100D.

If you listen to realy low bass, then don't use a port. Ports should never be used with an amp withou a subsonic filter. As far as which would be better for that particular sub as a customer feel free to call Audiobahn, or the retailer you purchased it from.

1st MP3 in NH..........you seem to be a car stereo whiz.

What do you think of infinity perfect subs? I have never heard them myself but the specs on them are impressive and they seem to get great reviews everywhere I have looked.

I have heard the infinity perfects, they sound pretty good, to me they didn't seem to hit the lower notes as strong as some other subs. They still sound good tho.

I am putting a MTX 81000D amp in my car. Its gonna push two 12" fosgate punch HX2 subs. I will probably eventually put another 81000D amp in, but at first i am only gonna invest in one. :D
