mod or not to mod

So im at one of those points...seems to be a thing everyone goes through with cars.

Basically..I just want a second opinion.

Plain and simple.....Should I mod the P5, or buy something else for a project and just make that my "toy"..Or buy a better car (rx-8. ms3..etc)..

I want a dependable dd, but i also want a car to bring to the track.

The p5 has the potential to be both, but i dont want to be modding a car that just isnt worth it...basically putting 5k into it and barely hitting 14's in the 1/4 mile....given this car is built to handle, and that is what i want...But the thing just seems like its soooo hard to get it past the whole "slow" point..

Spending like 5k on a used 240 and swapping the motor for a 13 second track / weekend cruise car sounds very appealing...

At the same time...I love my p5, shes been so good to me and is a beast in the twisties with just the stock configuration....

I dunno..Im stuck :( guess this is more of a rant than anything, but input is welcome

Prote's make good auto-X cars and handle the twisties with ease. Mod it with taste of performance and looks and you should be happy with it. STop by Karl's house and look over mine. Nothing by itself is over the top but all totaled up, some people have said I a have a bad ass P5. To me its just tastefully done, nothing extream.

I have a toy truck for all my horsepower needs so the P5 is just fine moderately tweaked for me.

Something like that might work for you.

Bill i love you, and i think thats pretty much something i could do. Just some minor appearance stuff, maybe a few tweaks to the suspension for fun...and honestly the whole thing is just power...Or the lack of :p ..so maybe an old 5.0 or crappy something with a V8 will make me feel better. ..haha

if you are looking for major power, expect to spend major money. if you are looking to make a tight cornering car that puts smiles on your face and maybe get a bit more power out of it, that can be done. it all comes down to your ultimate wants, needs and goals.

ya, its just so hard to convince myself to spend money on something that produces very little results (the motor) and i know this car wasnt meant for that...

Just one of those things..

I just have so many friends with like...amazing fast cars..and ive always had a car that can out handle them, but...Going fast is fun too :p

Msp turbo set up with front mount, exhuast, clutch/flywheel, and split second. And boost controller on 10 psi! And the safety mods like wideband, oil/water pressure/temp/whatever gauge and all the other lil safety mods.

You will be past the slow stage then.

That setup = Protege > stock/lightly modded MS3. I have proof :)

I've asked the same question myself on my P5. I finally just decided i'm going to build the P5 all out. I personally don't like having a car that every joe on the road has like hondas. Here in AZ there aren't many P5's rollin around that are modded. Plus, i couldn't sell it, i like it too much! lol Bills P5 is sweet, and i'm gonna steal some ideas from him(bill, you understand right? haha)

Anyways, think about it and then just decide and never look back.

ya..good point on the whole average joe thing...as bad as ide like a 240 or somthing...its like...

So ...Boring in a different way.

gah..this is so..tedious, lol..

But ill stick with the ol' wagon. And maybe...MAYbe pick up somethin later..

Prolly not gonna boost just cause of reliability (I have 100K miles on her)..and I cant afford a blown motor.

So bolt ons and appearance mods will have to suffice...

thnx all

only you can really answer that question...i've spent ridculous amounts of cash on my car and most people think it's a waste...not me.

your gonna start to fall in love with it. its gonna beg and beg for mods every day. one day, your gonna fall into its trap, everyone else seems to, including myself.

thats the hard part...ive driven sooo many boosted cars..

im addicted but dont have it!!!

Driving down the street everyday for me is like putting a meth addict into the middle of compton and chaining him to a pole....

ITS HELLL!!!!!

ALOUIE - where is the proof of the faster than the MS3? I would love to see that. GO P5T's !

Turbo your p5 and safely run 10 pounds, you will see for yourself.

I am not allowed to talk about the proof on the forum though :) against the rules. But it was in a green lx with the mods that I listed in other post. I can keep up with one but can't beat it yet :( I am only on 7-7 1/2 pounds till clutch/flywheel and buy the split second!

edit: I do not suggest running 10 pounds though without safety mods (split second, etc) haha.

Ill prly upgrad the intage mani, cams, header, udp, exht, maybe something for the oil and coolant system...and a tune...thatll be max, just NA and simple with a nice nasty aggresive sound and handle like a japanese bullet train
(ide say rails but i prefer electromagnets!)

If it helps you any, there are quite a few boosted Auto P5's around here.
Should you decide to go that route, you'll have a lot of help/advice you can depend on getting...also, IIRC, there's a large thread focused on boosted/how to boost autos.
A bit reassuring for you, I hope.
