Hey guys.

I was wondering if anybody has used this stuff: Mobil 1 5w-50.

I'm running Mobil1 5w-30 right now, but I'll be swapping fluids in my car by next week. I'll probably use the 50 stuff since I live in the desert and my car can use all the high temp protection it can get. I was just wondering if anybody has heard or used it.

Thanks!

It seems that for some reason it's not for sale in the US, but it's most ceirtanly real.

I've found a bit of chit chat about it in other forums, but nothing too good, mostly stuff that decends into "my oil is better than yours" flame wars. The Mobil's homepage info (thanks hugador) and this link are the best links so far.
Oils vs Oils

In any case since this is my last service required to be at the dealership for warranty reasons I'll check with them first if they have any issues with me supplying my own oil. If they do have an issue, I'll see what can be done, since I really am keen on getting this oil because of the 120F+ temps we've been getting this summer.

I'll keep on posting.

So, the dealership is good with me bringing my own oil and after a bit of shopping around to find the 6 quarts needed, I finished off what I could find and bought 7 quarts just in case.

Probably a bit too heavy of an oil unless you're running in real high temps ~ 100+ degrees F every day.

Then I made the right choice :) Up until last week when it started raining and we're a bit cooler (at 90ish), in summer we'll pass 100F pretty much every day. We had about a month and a bit stint where we where hitting 120F every day. On the flip side, our winter is a joke for most of you guys, since we rarely get any cooler than 35F

Well, the engine is now using the oil. Let's see how it goes from here on.
