the RS isn't too expensive though other than cost of ownership and insurance
it's actually not bad compared to, say, a porsche, but for a japanese car it's on the expensive side. it's a combination of things really. stock tires are $263 each according to tire rack and last ~15,000 miles. if you want to drive it in anything below 40 degrees you need winter tires. brakes last slightly longer but are another quick wear item. diff fluids aren't terrible again but you're supposed to use the mitsu stuff which isn't super cheap. oil has to be synthetic. you have to do maintenance on schedule or it'll come back to bite you. the clutch will last 50k miles with normal driving. plus all of this stuff has to be done more frequently if you drive it hard. it's just a lot of small, not cheap but not terribly expensive things that need to be done frequently. if you're used to driving a modified car it's not too much different as most of the stuff you have to do is stuff you would have done anyways, as you'll put better than stock brakes, tires, use synth oil, etc... in the year and a few months i've owned it though it hasn't been crazy expensive. it's certainly no civic though, but driven as a daily driver it's not too badDonas64 said:Yeah I've had cost of ownership on EVO's is KILLER. What makes it so pricey?
Tires? Service? whats the deal?

another part of the expensive to own is insurance, which isn't cheap. then there's also modding, which is where people fall into a huge trap. it's so easy to spend a lot of money on it because of the gains you get. in stock form up near red line the car starts to die off. a simple reflash and exhaust (where i am now) makes such a huge difference, it just makes you want to do more. then when you do cams, same thing. the hp/dollar ratio is good when you start modding, which makes it hard to stop for some people. but then you increase your maintenance schedule normally as staying out of the power is hard, and it all ends in a vicious cyclei made myself a 5 year plan for my car to help regulate myself and not fall into the trap
