Missing BOSE Sub on a MazdaSpeed6

Did all Speed6 GT's have a rear sub?

I just checked mine and it's missing the sub on the rear deck. Mazda sold me the car used, but told me it came with the BOSE system so I assumed everything was there. It wasn't until my GF came back from a trip that I looked in the trunk to find no speaker on the rear deck, and a connector disconnected.

Yep. you are missing you sub. Any sign of aftermarket equipment? At this point it might be a better idea to go with an after market setup. Stock sub is not all that great.

True, but Mazda sold me the car saying it had the BOSE system. I also don't want to put a box in the back because it's my family car. I have to keep a stroller and all kinds of other baby stuff in the trunk.

Don't b**** to us, b**** to the dealership you bought the car from. If they can't help you, you are SOL unless someone here will sell you theirs.

FYI, the factory sub has an amp on the bottom so if you were to replace it with aftermarket, you'd also need an amp. You can easily fit an 8" sub there, with a custom baffle a 12" will fit.

Already called the dealership twice now, with no return call.

Next step is Mazda USA, and I seriously doubt they'll tell me I'm SOL. I've owned a Mazda since the day I got my license, and I'm pretty sure they'll want to keep a loyal customer happy. When my dealer didn't want to cover warranty work all I did was call Mazda Corp. office, and they got it done.

Also, WTF? Bitching? douche. I don't see any bitching.

I'm just saying, that we can't do anything for you. Lots of people come on here and complain about issues that could simply be resolved by visiting the dealer. In fact, you should stop calling them and just stop by. Face time goes a long way.

The sub could easily be covered under the warranty (assuming you aren't out of warranty yet)...or they could replace it for you out of good faith. Don't get Mazda involved until you have exhausted your options with the dealer.

Well I finally talked to the sales manager, and he was a total douche bag. He said because it was used he can't do anything. So I asked him if he thought it was right to tell me I was getting a GT trim car with the BOSE system, then selling it to me with something missing. He didn't like that and started raising his voice to me. So I politely told him I would just call Mazda USA.

Mazda USA is supposed to have someone getting back to me, but said that because it was used the dealership has the final word.

Another question would be was the car sold as a certified used car? If so then it should come with all factory installed equipment.

Yes it was.

Found out;

They're not going to do anything, freakin bastards!

The guy before me had a converter installed to run an aftermarket stereo, so I may just buy a 10" JL and an amp.

Before you buy anything, post a WTB thread in the F/S section of this forum and Mazda 6 Club . com. There are probably people out there who have one and wouldn't mind shipping it to you. I myself have one...but I always hold onto my factory gear so I can re-install it when I sell the car, something your previous owner should have done.

So this is what the dealership said or what Mazda USA said. I would raise a stink about it.

Per Mazda's 100 point inspection for certified pre-owned found on there website:

Audio System

85. Radio/cassette/CD player/speakers
86. Antenna

Both told me the same thing.

They are telling me "IT DOES HAVE THE BOSE STEREO!"

and I'm like, "Yeah, but it is incomplete, I was sold a GT trim model car, and was told it had the BOSE system that comes with the Speed6."

and then they say, "It does have the BOSE stereo."
(bang)

Then I go and shoot myself.

grab the spec sheet for the speed6. (i can scan mine in if you can't find it.) it specifically says "BOSE 7-speaker sound system (200-watt) with amplified subwoofer"

ask them to show you where the subwoofer is.

and the BOSE was standard on all 07, not sure on the 06.

Pretty sure all speed6s came with BOSE, including the factory rear deck subwoofer. There is an f*ckin grill for it on the rear deck and an obvious hole where it belongs.

I would run with this tip and tell them they did a poor job of inspecting this pre-owned vehicle and you plan on reporting them to Mazda USA and posting online that they don't take care of their customers. Freedom of speech is a b****. Escalate your complaint higher up the chain until you get what you want.

Or, you can do your research and find out that the factory subwoofer sucks and you're better off with aftermarket anyway. As I mentioned before you can easily mount an 8" subwoofer there with very little work. I know it costs more but it would actually be a subwoofer. Did you know that what Mazda calls a subwoofer in the MS6 is actually a midbass driver in the front doors of the RX-8. Its true. In the MS6 it is just used to add a little more midbass since there is only room for 6.5" and 5.25" speakers in the doors.

^^ I was unaware that the "sub" was actually a midbass driver ... that makes a lot of sense now, when I first picked mine up, the bass was all the way up and it sounded like s***. I've tweaked it since then, but it still isnt right, I can see why now.

Its not bad enough for me to do any aftermarket work yet, but I'm sure I'll end up doing so at some point.

Which subs fit the factory mounting location?

Also, I am going to need an amp too, correct?

I guess since the previous owner already put in the converter I should be good to go on that.

I've got my stock amp and sub laying around somewhere. If I can find it I'll sell it to you.

edit:

Nevermind, it got damaged in storage...

What will fit depends on your woodworking skills. You can check out how I installed a 12" sub in the factory location by reading Chris' Mazdaspeed6 Stereo install log.

If you are looking for a quick install, I'd stick with an 8" sub such as the JL Audio 8W1v2-4. To power it you could use something like a JL Audio A2150. Of course, what you pick depends entirely on your budget. You can get some cheaper stuff but I can guarantee that JL Audio equipment will outlast your car (and probably your next car too).

I won't buy cheap stereo equipment. I used to work installing stereos about 10 yrs ago. Back then we did competitions and used only MTX and Kicker parts for those types of systems, but we did use a lot of JL on higher end cars not looking to compete. I was planning on going MTX or JL.

Thanks for the help man!
