miss firing?

So my 89' 323 has been having an odd issue the past months. And its hard to explain with out experiencing it, the best way I can explain it is I think its miss firing....sorta.

basically on some cold mornings atleast on cylinder starts click very loud like its miss firing and after a few seconds it goes away. Doesn't happen often just on some mornings. It also does the same miss firing noise when I am driving. I will be driving and I will start to hear this clicking noise from the same cylinder, then it will get louder and louder and louder annnnd stop......and then a while later start back up again.

The only reason I am not sure if its miss fire because it is just a sound at this point. The engine doesn't respond or act any different when it is making the noise. No shaking, no lag, nothing just runs normal.

Of course the car doesn't like to reproduce the sound when I get home to pop the hood open so I haven't had a chance to look under the hood while it does it at all.


But so far I have replaced the spark plugs, and that seemed to fix it then a week later it started doing it again. I plan on replacing the Distributor cap and wires this next week and seeing what then.

So anyone have any ideas? Cause its driving me crazy.

Fixed.

Turns out I had low oil, very low actually (had to fill it up with 2 quarts). Was bellow the L mark on the dip stick. I feel really stupid cause I never check my oil because I have never been use to doing it because of past cars not having oil leak problems.

Now to see how fast this supposed oil leak is on my 323, last time i looked at the dips stick was back in July. Fun fun
