misplaced wire! help?!?!?

I have a 02 mazda protege5, changing out the fuel pump a black wire came out of somewhere, not sure where, but it seems to be a ground wire, it's a small thin one, this is the pump I have but can not tell from this where it goes. That wiring harness should not have any loose ended wires. There are only two ends for that harness which simplifies things. So, there should be a one-to-one relation for each wire between the two harness end clips. It is all part of the fuel filter assembly. Take it out and photograph that area of the fuel filter assembly if you cannot figure it out, and post it here.
