misfire in boost?

Hey all,

ive been plagued with this problem for the last little while. initially i was getting misfire after driving the car in the heat and the car would go what seemed to be limp mode. i ended up getting the cel light up and flash (pulled over and shut the car down).

i have recently changed out the plugs and car seems to be doing ok...if i stay out of boost. the second im in boost, misfire like crazy and will even affect idle after that. quick reset of my ecu and everything is fine, until boost again.

needless to say, i dont get to play in boost any more and have been thinking it could be couple other things. only things i can think of though are coils and wires which i have yet to attempt to change or fix.

also using ngk vpower plugs right now in stock heat range.

yep i would change out the coils and maybe wires too. I heard 626 wires work better cuz there thicker i havent used them before though so im not forsure on that. Try doing one coil at a time since there like 300 a pop

your local parts store will have them >40 a piece.

i was having the same problem. i was having to gap my plugs at like.010 to get it not to mis-fire.
after changing the wires, and both coils. no more problems.

Thanks guy! Popped into the local mazda dealer picked up both coil packs n wires, cost me bout 400 bucks for all of it. Lucky me as I was just about to leave, got stuck in limp mode and could drive outta there. Changed the packs in the parking lot and all seems good so far! good think I had my ratchet set with me haha

Two new coils, wires and a set of plugs would run about $100 at a parts store. Glad to hear you worked it out.

yea, i did see non oem coils available online and im sure through some of the part store, but i just figured the oem ones probably lasted this long, didnt want to have to worry about fitment or quality from some of the aftermarket parts. you think aftermarket coils are any different?

All aftermarket parts are different, typically OEM is always best but you can buy some parts that are as good or better for much cheaper online or at a parts store. I'm running $25 autozone coils and they have worked fine for over a year now.

Yea and also as far as warranty you would probably have better luck with warrantying them back at parts store than back at the dealer. Some parts are even made better such as Moog front end parts for example. They redesign parts in their Problem Solver line by fixing issues that factory parts were known for to make it better. As far as the spark plugs it might be a good idea for you to get a colder plug and maybe get away from the V Power Ngk's. I just read a few things about people having problems with them. I got the BKR7E's V-power and wanna steer away from them see if it helps my issues. Wish they still made the bkr7e copper ones still.
