About 6 months into owning my 08 MS3, my mirror with compass and tint would blink randomly and then eventually went permanently off. I haven't bothered to take it in yet cause it doesn't bother me enough, but this morning my stereo lcd display above the media buttons started blinking and dimming when I first started driving. After a minute or two it stopped but now I might have to take it in.

Has anyone else had these issues? If its something simple or related to fix on my own I would prefer to not take a trip to the dealer. Might be related, but the mirror went out about a week or too after I installed a rear mount dogbone. Vibrations might be the problem.

The mirror should be tapped into the wiring bundle behind the driver's side kick panel. It's a simple matter to get to...... pull up the scuff plate (pops loose), pull the plastic push anchor from the kick panel, then pull the panel towards the back of the car to pop it loose.

The ground should be tapped off of a factory ground on the door jam, and the power wire should be tapped off of one of the wires in the bundle.... I want to say it's red with an orange stripe, but I really can't remember. They should also have wired in inline fuse in with it, so if you're having some strange electrical problem it's possible that blew.

good call, you were right.

I ended up remembering what I read on here about this randomly while driving. I thought "damn mirror" and kicked the kick panel you were refering to near the floor and the mirror flicked back on so it is a ground issue. I really didn't think the wiring down there was anything related to the mirror before, but it must have been the ground I picked for the turbo timer.

Hmm -my stereo LCD backlight also started pulsing. I'm also hearing a strange high-pitched jingling noise from the right front of the car once I get above 60 - it sounds like it's from the wheel well area. I just replaced my springs and struts, but I can't think of any component I removed/replaced that would make such a sound if it was loose. Argghh! Of course, I'm about to make my last payment, so I should expect things to start going wrong.
