Yeah, the MSP (and the MP3) is the 8th best handling car in the planet, and the best handling FWD vehicle.

OOh, 8th in the world, eh? Got a link to a source or anything? What else is on the list?

ferrari enzo, ferrari 360, lambourghini mercialahgo, porsche GT2, porsche 911 turbo, corvette Z06, your mom, mazdaspeed protege. i think that's in the right order too!

edit - i really hope he was joking

I've never heard 8th in the world but sport Compact car magazine did say that the MSP, (not the MP3) was the best (factory) FWD ever tested. It can out slalom a porsche 911 turbo. That has to stand for something. The MP3, while a great car, is not tuned as harsh as the MSP. Miata's however are the most definative example of pure sportscar. They posess every quality that defines what a true sports car is. They are light, RWD, have amazing weight distribution, amazing power/weight ratio, nimble, sure-footed, etc....The list goes on. Miata's are the first choice for Auto-Xers for a reason. Being 6' 3" I'm going to have to give up on my dreams of racing the maita and will "settle" for a highly turboed P5!!

I remember sitting in one at a car show...I'm 6'1" and my knees were pressed against the glove box. The sales guy glanced over and I asked him if it came in a Large.

Great car...but just a little tight in all the wrong places for the taller crowd.

When was the last time you sat in a Miata? The newer ones are have loads more room than the previous ones. At 6'1 I can easily drive the car all day. Only thing that gets to me is I don't have alot of width room in the leg area. Which isn't really a problem expect when you want to stretch out.

best handling fwd car? i think that title went to the corrado back in the day, and im pretty sure its still way up there

The MP3 did in fact out slalom the ZO6, 911, and every other car they had tested when it came out. Light and flickable. But mind you that is where it ended. . .cause it doesn't have power or even compare to those on the skidpad. I beleive it was Road and Track that reported this back when the MP3 came out. It is true. I cling to these little morsels of "worth" just to make me feel better. :D

As for Mini's they're great at autocross. So is the Miata.

HERE IT IS! MP3 POWER!

Summary:

This isn't the exact article I recall, but this is the one that got quoted earlier is this thread I'm guessing.

I thought this was funny: Poor MSP. . .
"And with the addition of a limited-slip differential, the MazdaSpeed can apply all of its power to the asphalt with little wheelspin. Through the slalom and the tighter parts of the autocross, even though the Proteg retains much of the MP3's dynamic behavior, its steering feel loses a bit of the quickness and sharpness that we admired so much on its predecessor. "
:D So MSP, Who's your daddy? (laugh)

There are two ways to make a volkswagen go 200 km/h. This is the other one.

:)

I used to love the commercial!

In autox, the problem with the Mini Cooper S is that the MSP is MUCH better due to the torsen limited slip. My first autox on the OEM Bridgestones this spring, I outran a Mini Cooper S on race rubber by half a second.

The performance gap was so big, the SCCA dropped the Mini S down to GS only 4 months after putting it in DS. The Mini S was getting wiped.

And the Mini isn't that small or light. Curb weight is 2671 lbs, the MSP is 2807 lbs with a full tank, 2750 lbs with 4 gallons of gas in the tank.

As for Miatas, they can keep up with the C4 Corvettes on a tight autox course. Wonderful handling cars. Wish I fit in one! And the new Mazdaspeed Miatas are turbocharged, rated at 180 hp. I wonder if they use the same GT25 turbo the MSP does?

the MSP is a bit stiffer than the MP3. I've driven both. The MSP should come with it's own kidney belt. I love the feel, but it's a track-made car. The LSD will always cause a slight numbing in sterring feel.

As for the comment of " So MSP, Who's your daddy? " I think we all know the answer to this. That was an assanign question. Turn the wick up on the MP3...oh wait, there's not one?? Well put one on and then see what happens...BOOM!

Heh, now the MiniS can be competitive(i didn't know they had dropped them down finally)! I have a feeling they are going to clean house in GS.

I wish the MSP had the Euro-Spec steering rack like the MP3...

I'm PRETTY sure the MSM will have the same turbo, but when you say GT are you referring to it as a Garret T25 or a Garret GT25 Series Turbo?
