Mini Cooper Gets Worked !!!!!

I was coming home from work about 11:30 last night, and had to stop to get gas. While filling up, I start talking to this kid in a Cooper S. I told him he had a cool car, he said mine was an overrated waste of a good turbo. Well, that made me mad:mad: .
He wanted to race, but I told him I have a Mustang GT to lay the smackdown on folks, not the MSP.
He called me chicken and said he would for me out on 401 .

I lined up with him, and let go! This was the first time I ever pushed my MSP hard, and it felt GREAT !!!
I pulled the 1-2 and heard the turkey. He was 3/4 cars behind. I wasn't looking at my shift points, but I do recall that the turbo never stopped whistlin'. When I pulled the 3-4 shift he was almost 2 cars back!!!!!!!! I was amazed !!!!!!!!!

At the next light, he comes up and says "good race, I knew I couldn't get ya,but I wanted to see if the MSP had any run in it. "
Guess he found out ,huh??

Anyways, I wouldn't do it again. I try to keep it off the streets.
I let my Mustang do its talking at the strip. :D

I get these same sentiments from most MiniS drivers. They are all uppidy about owning an overpriced econobox built by BMW. It's a sweet car no doubt but the owners I've encountered act like stereotypical BMW owners. Good kill, and make sure if you see him again to rub in the fact that he spent alot more money for a clown car:p

not quite as nice as the Pros (IMO) but they are pretty damn impressive from the ones I drove (former valet/3-minute racer :D)

I was kinda feeling a bit like the scene from out of Snatch though 'cause the woman was a midget and I (6'0" 230 lbs) didn't want to move her seat. [we need a fat man emoticon]

there is something to be said for a car that can be picked up and moved by a couple guys though... :D

nice kill. as much as the cooper-s might not be all that powerfull, i'd love to see one of the John Cooper Works versions...that's a helluva lot of power for such a small car.

I'd like to see the exact same race against the MSP and a JohnCooperWorks MiniS....it would be an entirely different story.

price is also a big consideration and the MSP wins there....also in upgradablility, but pound for pound off the showroom floor the CooperWorks S will light the MSP up.

yeah, it a girls car.
i do like the ones on italian job though, they were pretty nice cars imo

.2 faster in the 1/4? That's neglidgeable and would definitely come down to driver. It's an impressive design no doubt, but why are you guys so high on it? I'm sure the crafstmanship is top notch just like the S but it doesn't seem overly impressive considering it gets poor gas mileage, and modest 1/4 times but is still a clown car. Am I missing something impressive about this car besides build quality?

Edit: wow, 6.4 0-60 but still only a 14.7 in the 1/4. That seems off.

Im with heathen. The cooper is a go-cart. so its quick, big damn deal its so freakin small if it wasnt it wouldnt even be marketable. the fact that it is, is a result of a market audience that has too much money on thier hands and wants to look cool and hip at the age of 35 to 40 when they pull up to thier corperate parking lot. its a side show. its not practical in america, our streets are wide enough to handle escalades, u dont need that small of a car to get around. on that note, there ARE escalades on the road. i think people would would get off the mini high horse the first time that colision happens. its a clown car.

I'm not saying I'm completely negative about it. I'm just trying to understand why it's so great. It's high priced for an economy sized car. It's modestly quick. And it's tiny with handling equivelent to the MSP. So why are the owners convined it's a freakin' Moderna? I feel like I'm missing something about it

Alot of the cult following is based on the orginal Mini, which at the time was a fantastic design. They still hold their own with a vast aftermarket following. On this the new one has spun many to buy it for that past history. In the future there will probably be just as much tuning capability for the new Coopers.
I like the cars, though still have greater love for the orginals. Wouldn't own a new one other for the fact to play and modify it, besides that it has nothing to offer my personality.

yeah it seems to be something like the Bug vs. the Beetle. overpriced new version (still decent car though) that is playing on the following and history of the classic version that so many recognized and loved. IMO

Yeah, the Coopers beat up on Miatas at auto-x.

The MSP need not apply.

Stock Miata's out handle MSP's? I don't know anything about miata's but I've never seen them listed in top handling preformer's lists. I do know they are good AutoXers but that's about the extent of my Miata knowledge.

Yeah, the MSP (and the MP3) is the 8th best handling car in the planet, and the best handling FWD vehicle.

*Off-Topic take over, not meant to start a flame war, just claification on a blank statement"

This would be news to me, and as such could you please disclose the source of such a wildly blank statement. 8th Best in the world, surely not. But of course I maybe mistaken, A super driver.....One that would make Superman envious was able to take the MSP to higher levels than anyone else.
