hey guys,

just headin home from a friends tonight along my favorite stretch of road. The beast hit a new record for herself 195 km/h. Wierd things was, she was still pulling hard at that point but I had to slow down to turn off. All I have done so far is K&N typhoon, long reach plugs, cruise removal and suspension work. The freshly wrapped Tsudo header is still sitting in the garage. Can't wait to get that piece on now. Off to bed

Oh no! People will be scared & scold you for that. I'm not one of them. I firmly believe that one must attain full knowledge of the capabilities & limitations of their vehicle to be able to handle it properly in all situations as they arise. As long as you don't involve innocent bystanders in your research I will have to applaud your quest for knowledge.

oh trust me I know how that is. I have a 2003 Yamaha R6 and if they only knew what I've done on that thing haha. I make sure i'm on secluded, unhabitted roads while testing things like this. I feel that for this car 4th gear and 95 km/h and up it can hold its own pretty good. Its just anything under that it lacks... opinions?

you have a stick? They should pull to abt 130 - 135 before the aerodynamic drag overcomes the engine.

im the same way, and doing things like that is the only reason why i know my protege as well as i do.
ive managed to run mine up to 115mph and it was still pulling, pretty hard too, (very odd for an auto)

I just re read this, and I have to disagree with you. All that taking your car up to 100 mph plus will teach you is how fast your car will go. Nothing more. I guarantee if a sudden corner came out of nowhere *cough*didn't see it*cough* lol, you, me or anyone else (except for someone who has dealt with the car under those conditions, IE a road racer) would not have any idea what to do and still freak out. Autocrossing is a great way to learn how to handle the car in extreme situations, I know it's helped me out a couple times already. The only way to learn the car in a safe way (both for you, the car and anyone else, even tho I hope y'all do this "research" when there ain't ppl aroune, like this guy at midnight) it to take it to the track, off the street where if something unexpected happens (and if that doesn't happen, you're not getting to the car's limit lol), the worst thing you'll hit is a cone or two, or a tire wall.

In conclusion: Taking your car up to 125 mph doesn't make you any sort of pioneer. All it means is that you know that the car can do 125. Congrats!

Exactly. Track/Autocross are better places to find out your or your car's limits. Secluded road and nobody around eh? Let's say something bad happened. Now who's going to help you? (notcool)

hey,

totally agree with the last two posts. Where you really are gonna learn what the car can do handling wise in a safe controlled environment is at a track or a race school. On that note, neither of those will let you find out the max speed of you car, so one must compromise.

Removing the cruise does nothing but makes the engine bay look a little cleaner and give you a bit more room under the hood. I never use cruise so I didn't need it, now only if I could safely get rid of the ABS system...

I'll have to call DUH! No s*** on all that fluff. Never said straight line speed would test all of the limits of the car nor did I condone doing autoX on public roads or in rush hour traffic but thanks for all the OBVIOUSNESS. It's really good advice & I'm sure it may help someone else that may not already know these things.

On a road trip through a section west of Death Valley, I had mine up to 180km/h. With my bike mounted on the roof so there was a lot of drag. 'Twas a lot of fun, but something that I'll be doing everyday. :)

Got mine up to 156mph with 2 12' kayaks on top, 2 bikes on the rear bumper rack, full tank o gas & 4 people in the car at TX motor speedway last wknd.

Who said that you condoned auto-x on public roads. Before you start callin "DUH!" on ppl, make sure you actually read what they said. I just said that if you wanna test the limits of your car / driver, do it on the track. Nothing more. And wtf do you have done to your car to get 156 WITH 2 kayaks on top? Even w/ i/h/e they top out at 140ish

I did read the posts, yours had this - "Autocrossing is a great way to learn how to handle the car in extreme situations" I went out on a limb & assumed that that meant lots of turns & not straight line top speed test. I was mainly addressing the post that made the comment about top speed testing not teaching you s*** about what the car will do in handling turns. I don't think that was in your post. BTW, the TX motor speedway was a joke. Would they really let me on the track with all that crap on the car? (That wasn't really a serious question)

Falango - it was on the number 1 heading east from the port man bridge. Once you are halfway up the hill past where the cops wait you have 3 lanes wide and no off / on ramps till 160th. Its uphill into flat then a long sweeping corner into a straight.

mind you this was at 2:30am on a monday morning. Hardly any cars on the freeway that time

Now that i've said this I will never do it again as cops will prolly be waiting for me haha

Damn, I only got mine up to 125 before with header and catback. I wonder if it will achieve your "140ish" with my new midpipe... BRB!

(evil)

Nice, I got mine going 185 along number 1 going west, just after 200th. Caught up to traffic, so had to ease up, but there was still alot more left!
