Has anyone seen / installed a metal stepping plate on their bumper? Somehow I have the impression of seeing it somewhere before but I can't remember exactly ...

Never thought of the need until some idiot stepped on my bumper when loading / unloading cargo and scratched it big time.

It's nice to be back to have a break - it's been quite a while since I posted anything here ... I think having 2 kids is so different than having just one (burnout). Driving a 5 does make it a little bit easier though!

I haven't seen a metal one yet myself, just the plastic one available from Mazda as an accessory.

Yeah ... I was hoping there might be aftermarket ones that are made of metal. I know there are door sills that are made of brushed stainless steel / aluminum ... just can't find one for the bumper stepping plate.

I second the two kids. Now if I can just convince my wife to have another!

I installed the plastic one less than a month after purchasing ours, it has proven it's worth. Are you just after bling?

Yes, it's just personal taste / preference. The car is white and I prefer silver on white than black on white.

The step plate posted above doesn't look to be as effective as my plastic one. Mine wraps over the top corner of the bumper a little, not just sit on top. Maybe you could buy the plastic one and use some metalic paint with a clear coat.

I will try to see if there is anything better that's custom designed for the 5 like those door sills we've seen. If I can't find any then I will have to go for the black plastic ... or maybe I can paint it in white LOL

I'm not comfortable putting step plates in there because the children might step on it. Right now I try to keep the bumper top surface clean and shiny. This way they are careful when unloading the groceries and cargoes. Maybe when the scratches become too many, then I will put the step plate.

You have a point. Plus I still prefer the clean look of the bumper without the stepping plate.
