2012, has melted two drivers side headlamp (low beam) connectors in the last year. Picked up a ceramic one this time, fear I am moving problem somewhere else. Any ideas about what could cause that? Passenger side is fine. Curious as to why it gets so hot and doesn't blow the fuse. Seems like some kind of electrical issue is at hand.

Thanks!

did you replace the light bulbs recently ? make sure they're not more than 55 Watts , anything higher like 80W / 100W will melt the connectors

there's also been instances where even stock bulbs would melt connectors, mostly due to the connector itself, see link, hope this helps.....found it online

I'll have to check tonight. Replaced them with standard bulbs. Didn't know there were different wattages. Thanks!

The ceramic connectors should solve your problem, as long as you are using OEM bulbs or equivalent or aftermarket bulbs under 55 watts...

What causes the heat is a poor connection along the way to the bulb. This happens at a connector. I suggest keeping the connections clean using a shot of CRC Electronics Cleaner on each side before plugging together. It also wouldn't hurt to buff them shiny using sandpaper, steel wool, metal brush, etc. The higher the wattage bulb, the more important good connections are to keeping the heat away.

They are standard 55w bulbs. Given I replaced the previous melted connector and bulb, parts were clean. Car was bought used last December, but the first melted connector was the original, so it doesn't seem like something that has been going on long. I still smell a light burning odor after replacing with the ceramic. Passenger side seems fine.

You might want to search for indications of a prior repair, if you are not the original owner. Sometimes body shops splice incorrect wiring into H11's. That doesn't sound good. Hope you get it figured out!

Based on my experience with audi, this is a indication of a bad ground to the head lamp. In my case with my 2010 Audi TT it was a rear taillight, but same symptons. Easy repair is to find the ground wire, tap it, it run an additional lead to a bolt that has an acceptable ground.
