Megasquirting the 01 Protege ES

Well I looked at a lot of options out there for engine management and finally decided to megasquirt my 01 LX. So far, I have the jim stim built(V 1.4) And I am going to test it when i get home tonight. The MS2 build will be this weekend and installation and testing on the car will be soon after that.

Getting to the point, I wanted to know if there is anybody running either a N/A or turbo'ed protege with the MS or MS 2 setup... if so, any base maps and advise will be greatly appreciated........as i am a little (nailbyt) getting into this for the first time

I am thinking about getting the MS to run on N/A first then doing the turbo install so that i don't have too many things to go wrong at the same time.

details on my megasquirt are as follows :

MS230 Megasquirt-II kit with V3.0 PCB
jimstim JimStim MegaSquirt Stimulator with Wheel Simulator
MSHarness 12' wiring harness
IAT with Piggy Intake Air Temperature Sensor
38NPT-Bung Aluminum bung for IAT sensor
TuneCable 6' DB9 tuning cable
USB-2920
And the innovative LC-1 with DB digital gauge
I Think this engine comes with a 36-1 crank wheel right?
and distributor-less coil pack ignition with built in ignitiors?
Please correct me if I am wrong

I run MS 1 V3 in my MSP.Run great, just cold start took longer time to tune.

Put a 6.8K resistance between MS and VR sensor(crank sensor) black wire if not you will lose your tach in the dash.

You need coolant sensor too.

If you need info for the software let me know.

Thanks a lot speedy, do you have the CPU pinout for the protege? and can you post your maps so that i have a reference when i start tuning.

Also, What turbo are you running at what PSI?
What are your other mods?

Also, do you know what is the difference between our ignition system and the Ford EDIS?.. as far as megasqirt is concerned. Do I have to make any changes in the circuit?

I dont know for the circuit I order mine already built and I tell the guy my set-up and he build it for me.I order mine from efi4tuning.com you can e-mail him to know the set-up.

I have a MSP with stock GT25 at 15-16 psi with 440 cc WRX injectors.
3" TB GHL,FMIC,626 intake mani,steed speed exhaust mani.

The pin out you need is:

TPS signal: pin 89
TPS Vref : pin 90
O2 signal : your innovate
VR+ red : pin 21
VR- black: pin 22 you need to put resistance 6.8k is what I have,if not you will lose the tach in your dash.
Injector driver 1: inj.1 pin 75
injector driver 1: inj.4 pin 100
injector driver 2: inj.2 pin 101
injector driver 2: inj.3 pin 74
Sensors ground : pin 91
ECU 12 V : pin 97 with fuse 5 amp in line
Engine ground from MS to the engine ground
Coil A : pin 26
Coil B :pin 52

For my map I will post it later I have to transfert the MSQ from my laptop to my computer.When you really need it let me know.
 
Thanks a lot, I just Finished building the mail circuit. It was a really fun project... I am trying to figure out the pullup circuit, but i Dont know what kind of signal our ignition needs in order to fire (5v 12v or switched ground). I should have it figured out pretty soon.... thanks for all the help... I am going to try to post pics in the next thread
 
i need the tuning maps, if you have them. And by your pinout, it does look like you used a CTS or a IAT

Yes I use the GM coolant and intake temp sensor.I dont know how to put the complete maps here if you want PM me your e-mail and I try to send you my MSQ.

Sorry im really late... I Am on vacation... (nana) I have not done the install yet... i finished the megasquirt build and took off.... I will do it in about two weeks or so.... I still have to finish the pull up circuit too.... i guess ill be doing it on the proto area of the board.

Did you want a how to on the build or the actual install?

What version of MS Are you using? And what mods are you currently running?
 
The map below is for mazdaspeed protege with WRX injectors. Used with 29Y4 software.

Edit: To use with stock injectors :just go in engine constant,req fuel enter 280 cc instead of 420cc in the injectors field.After that you need to play with the after start enrich, warm up enrich and accel enrich.

No i did not finish, I'm just gathering details.
here is a stock map to get your car up and running. I believe the stock map only controls fuel. Maps provide to me by Velocifero
also included is a supermap and two other maps. Big thanks to Velocifero for providing the maps and info.
