I was looking on the web at Mazdastuff.com and Mazda offers a muffler for the p5. I wanted to know if anyone out there has it and, Is paying $195 for it worth it?

I am pretty sure that muffler is a Racing beat one. If you look at the little brochure for the protege where they list all the parts from an mp3 for protege and on the picture of the muffler you can see, if you look closely you can see the "racing beat" words on the tip. They sell the same muffler for the p5 only its a different part number since it does not have the "extension" between the muffler and the tip. just my 1 cent.

Agree that the muffler is a Racing Beat. I guess what I was trying to say is that Racing Beat is making an entire exhaust upgrade for the P5. Didn't mean to cause any confusion.

Right. So you can either just get the muffler for about 200 or the whole exhaust for ?400?. I wonder what the gains will be. Btw, i know this was discussed before but there doesn't appear to be a sure answer for how the mp3 is making 10 horses more. Is this mod possible at home or in a shop or is it not possible at all?

I'm going to buy the mazda sport exhaust this spring. It looks the part but doesn't get the neighbors all in a tizzy.

Hey the MP3 makes 10 more HP and 5 more torque I belive through there RB muffler and tweaked timeing.

The 10 HP gain is from a reprogrammed ECU. THe exhaust might help a tiny bit, but not 10 HP worth. I don't know if the ECU can be purchased and placed in a PR5. I would be curious to see if it could.

Well me personally, i wouldnt put a racing beat muffler on the P5. On the MP3, yes but the P5 just feels like it could do better. The cat-back system they have for it is wicked and in-expensive. I went with the Ractive 4.5" muffler before the cat came out and im just waiting to put the cat on. HP gains including the CAI should put it between 10-15hp. Its rumored that Greedy is also coming out with a cat-back so dont get mad if u already have one on and the Greedy hits the streets!
