Mazdaspeed6...should I?

Ok So right now i have a 07 Mazda 6i That i like but dont truly love. SInce i was 15 and now im 22,i have wanted a boosted car. I have been trying to sell my car for about 6 mouths now, so i can get a evo. but i really like the way my car looks. and i just found a mazda speed 6 about 3 hours away for $11900, with 73000 miles. i feel that its a good deal. What i want to know is a few things. I want to know how the cars do at higher millages. Also what kinda power can you make out of the cars. i want a car that i can go to the drag strip but then have real fun on the track. also any week point in the car would be good. as well as is that a good deal for a mazda 6. If i should try to buy or not thanks.

Before you buy, ask them for a Carfax. Take it home and spend a few days looking up the previous owners and their ages. It would also be in your best interest to find a way to look up their driving records. Spending a few days doing this should give you a good idea of how the car was driven. This is a lot of miles for a Speed6 and they didn't come without their share of issues.

With that mileage, I would probably stay away from this one unless you can find that the previous owner(s) really took very good care of it.

I agree with what Chris said about the Carfax, but I think that's too many miles for this car. Especially if you don't know how it was driven.

It seems like right now there are a lot of 06 MS6's being turned in from their leases, and several others being traded in. In the past few months we've had a lot of new MS6 members pop up. I'm sure you can find one with under 40k (which would still retain part of the OEM B2B warranty if it's an 06) for around $15-17K.

A quick piece of general advice......No matter what car you get, Evo, WRX, MS6, if it's high mileage and you're wanting to make significant power and run it at the track/drag strip you are going to run into problems. They may not be catastrophic, but I can almost guarantee that you will see some sort of issue.

as for your power question, these cars are kinda stuck at around 320whp with full blot ons and a tune. guys are making more with either bigger turbo swaps or nos but not too much more. if youre looking for a daily driver thats pretty quick, looks great, and isnt on every corner then pick up a ms6. if u want a 500 whp track monster, this isnt the car for you.

Ok that helps i think im going to pass. seems like to much work. SO now im stuck with this qustion. Should i keep trying to sell my car. and get something else or just try to make my 6 one of the best look in ohio. If so im getting lowering springs what is the best way to go about that

The 6 is a great looking car. That goes without say. The questoin is what you want. Power / boost . . . . or looks.

I say just hold off on the MS6 for now. Sounds like you have a solid starting point, and if you really want to, throw some money into the suspension and a few minor power mods and enjoy the car. I know how broke college kids are (I was one until my co-op/current job).

Understandable, but that MS6 you're looking at isn't one I'd waste my time with. It may be reliable, but I'd be questioning how long it will hold up.

If you're hell bent on getting a stick, maybe consider a V6 manual first-gen Mz6. Probably going to be cheaper, and they still can be modded and look great.

I'm with Steve man........ 73k miles on the car and they want 12 g's? PASS.

I found my MS6 with 4k miles for 21k out the door (it's at 48k now). I've seen people pick up cars with less miles for the same. My friend has a buddy that ended up getting a velocity red speed6 from carmax.... it had 43k miles and they wanted 12,900 for it. He bought it, brings it to my friend (who's a performance shop mechanic) and my friend is checking it out... turned out the car had a front mount intercooler, a GT28 turbo, cold air intake and the CPE standback on it. So his friend actually lucked out.

I say hold off and either save up the money, or mod your 6i. They are still sweet cars. My GF has a 6s and she loves it.... I told her when my warranty is up and I go with a bigger turbo I'm taking my little k04 and putting it on her car if the compression allows it, haha.

There are a lot of sweet looking Mazda6 on this forum if you take a look around, yours can be one of them just as well. I know how it is playing the broke college kid, most everyone goes through that in their life (unless they're born into rich). But for that many miles on the car if you took the time to look you should definitely be able to find a Mazdaspeed6 with a lot less miles for the same price (if that's your limit to afford).

I agree. just wanting a turbo car for six years you just so what it takes to do. I know its good looking. Yea i can throw a turbo on it. If all swaps over but. one thing no one makes after market motor parts for it. so whats the point you cant build the motor

Sure you can.... there are people who have gotten intact long blocks from wrecked cars (like a cx-7) and I'm talking about the 2.3L DISI.... and built the block port and polish, all that good stuff. There are a couple of companies that make pistons and rods, turbo manifolds, etc. There's actually quite a bit more than you think thanks to the popularity boom from the Mazdaspeed3.

If you're referring to your 2.3L in your 6i there are numerous engine/motor mods for it. One guy on here was even using a regular 2.3L motor built into his Speed6 (though I have no idea what became of him or his car).

well i looked for cams to put in my car but could not find any. i would be happy with cams. be super sleeper

Yeah, well, there's not a whole lot of cars out there that offer cams anyways. I've spotted other cars that don't offer cam upgrades. Besides.... if you have the money, you can always get custom (2thumbs) Then you'll be super sleeper and super unique ;)

Not a bad recommendation, you can get them for under 10k now. Manuals are somewhat hard to find; it took me a while to find mine. 220 hp and a sweet v6 sound... and you can get a moonroof ;)

Granted - not turbo but it will feel considerably faster than your 6i auto.
