Mazdaspeed6 Clutch Fix TSB

Well that depends on what you mean. Does it engage earlier in the release? Yes. Does the distance the clutch travels from the floor till it's all the way out change? Doesn't seem like it much if at all.

yeah mine only seemed SLIGHTLY changed, but it still feels pretty long

with the new clutch in the TSB all it changes really is the engagement point of the clutch, there isn't anything in the TSB about pedal travel, that is best to be done by the person, so they can get the right adjustment they want

I may be doing mine this weekend.

Looking to have the TSB done on my MS6 and the dealership is stateing that MAZDA has to come out on determine that if it needs to be done or not, and could take upto 3 days for them to come out and check it over. Does this sound correct. It would be the TYPE A repair. What do you all think?

i HAVE 20k ON MINE NOW...AND LOOKING TO HAVE THE tsb DONE...STILL LESS THAN 12 MONTHS..nOV ACTUALLY WOULD THERE BE A PROBLEM/

The only one that can answer that is your dealer. Some have got it done with high miles and others have been denies. It all depends on what your dealer feels like doing. Theoretically, Mazda should warranty the clutch regardless of mileage since it is a known problem but because the clutch only has an 8K warranty most dealers won't even bother to ask Mazda for reimbursment unless you push them.

Well I went ahead and adjusted it this weekend. Did 2.5 Turns on the top Bolt and 1.75 on the Actuator. Basically just shortened the pedal travel some. I think I like it better, but I will have to do some city driving before i know for sure.
Now that the clutch is right, I can focus on the rattle coming from my engine on startup( Damn Car!). O yeah, and the damn recalls as well. The list just keeps growing...

I understand that..... 2 recalls at once are crazy. Soon enough they'll recall the clutch and people won't have to worry about the mileage issue.

This is why I'm seriously contemplating taking the money I've been saving up, and save some more and buying my buddy's rx-7 for 5k and then buying a new or near near 13b for 2-3k..... i'll spend LESS on that car and make it go faster than my MS6

2 recalls? I saw two things about emissions in California and then stopped reading since I'm in PA. Should I care about any of it?

one of them has to do with a shutter valve sticking in cold whether and causing a false alarm light to illuminate

the other has to do with the OBD II port?

they both involve reprograming the PCM of the car........ I posted a link and then found out there was a sticky in the welcome area.......

Ah cool thanks. The shutter valve actuator thing I already have gotten fixed because it generated a CEL a week or two after I got the car. I'll get the other thing taken care of when my next maintenance is due.

Back to the TSB for the clutch. Attemp #2 was a success. All parts in stock about 1 1/2 days. Really looking foreward to the new one. With all the knee p[robs. that I have been having, it should be great to drive again.

If anyone besides myself was having the problem regarding 2nd gear........ I went today, but didn't bother to leave the car with the dealer

since it only occurs occasionally for me, I couldn't get it to show for the tech when we were in the car....... and he told me to be honest (i've known the tech a while and i've taken my car to the dealer multiple times) he said they won't take it apart to look at it

unless it actually does it......... so my best bet is that I'll have to be waiting until it does it more frequently....... looks like i'll be one of those people that has to wait until 2nd gear completely goes before they fix it : \

Lancaster Toyota Mazda.

I even went the whole corporate route. The local service rep would not even meet me to review my concern.

LAST.

MAZDA.

EVER.

For me.

I do still enjoy reading the threads!!!

Whoa, that was like going back in time. I was like, didn't he answer that before when I asked it? You did btw. I bought my car from Jack, because Faulkner wouldn't match their price, but I take it to Faulkner for service. Never had an issue with them, but couldn't guarantee they could figure out your issue.

Well, I am getting the TSB on my clutch finally. Suburban Mazda in Troy, MI told me flat out that the clutch was out of warranty and wouldnt perform the work.

I went to Ferndale Mazda to get the emissions recalls done, get my Sirrius radio fixed (antenna failure) and get oil change. I brought up the TSB and provided the text that I pulled from this site. They test drove it to see if they thought there was a problem. They concluded that there was no problem. I told them that the TSB makes it pretty much a subjective matter. It doesnt matter what you think because I dont particularly like the clutch action. Got a call back, they are fixing the clutch as I write. No warranty problems with 22k miles on the car. By the way, I dont know if anybody should be having warranty problems as the 12k clutch warranty applies to the friction materials, not the mechanical parts (I think).

Anyway, hopefully I get it back tomorrow. By then they will have had the car for an entire week while I am stuck driving this crap Kia Optima. Hope it is a good as you guys say.

In theory the 8K clutch warranty should be totally irrelevant...but that isn't how dealerships work. They look for excuses first, then satisfy the customer last. You can argue with them all day but if they don't want to do it, they won't and your best bet is to just move on to another dealer that will treat you right.

Otherwise, as I have mentioned before, make sure the dealer contacts their local Mazda Rep to request the service. Let the Rep say no before you give up....I haven't heard any documented cases where a dealership said yes and a Mazda Rep said no.

Yeah, I realized that after I posted it....

or....

I just wanted to hear myself talk!!

I had a similar experience, but I didn't push it as far as you did. I brought mine in for the emission recalls, and also asked them about the TSB. They concluded that there was no problem and declined to fix the clutch. I was a little disappointed, but I figure, at least I have it on record that I complained about the clutch at 10K (it's on the paperwork). Down the road, I can always go back and say, look, this is the second time I have it in for this... I guess I'm kind of used to the clutch now, even though I know the car is a lot better with the fix.

That's what my dealership said too, but they reached the conclusion that the TSB is subjective without me saying too much. They said they would do it if I wanted it done.

who told you 8k?

my dealer told me the clutch is 12k.......

When I went for my 2nd gear issues, he told me the gear and the synchros etc were all considered part of the transmission....... I think the clutch warranty is just the clutch, as you said the friction materials

(i.e. the clutch burning out, etc) I agree people shouldn't be having warranty issues with mechanical parts.
