Mazdaspeed6 Clutch Fix TSB

Soooo, now that some time has passed and more people have gotten this done. Is it worth it? I wanted to see what other issues popped up from this rather large job. What other things dealers are breaking in the process etc.

So far I have about 11,200 miles on the car......and i had it done around 6,800 miles......... Like chuyler said.........nothing but driving enjoyment (drinks)

OMG what a difference!!!!!! I had this done over a month ago, but I was out of town for 5 weeks and she rides so nice now! So smooth... Well worth it..

a chick driving a speed6, now that's hot...... I remember i saw this chick in a red one by my job and I tried to holler at her, haha........she probably thought I wanted to race though cause she kept speeding up when ever i'd speed up......never got a word out.

but I digress.......... Has anyone else had a problem with any of the gears?

I feel like my 2nd is messed up since I got it back....... sometimes it feels like it's blocking me out, as if the synchros don't mesh up....... and I'm hitting 11,300 miles....... and the warranty is only until 12k right? I better get to it this weekend.

I just got mine back today, and only drove it about 3 miles to work. Definitely easier to get going. I'll give it a drive on the way home and see how it feels.

i had my car in for an oil change last wednesday and had the dealer check it out. parts are on order and it should be going back in this week to get it done. sounds like it will make a huge difference. can't wait! i just hope to get a CX-9 as a loaner :D

everybody speeds up after they see you koenig lol

i think mine is going back to the dealer. it feels like its slipping more now. every once in a while when riding the clutch in traffic or whatever, i get the wonderful clutch burn smell. i'm gonna play around with adjusting it, but i think it needs to go back to the dealer.

yeah man yours shouldn't be giving you the clutch smell, I don't get that unless I mess up my launch and end up riding the clutch while revving 6k and moving forward........ other than that no smell at all.

Good Morning I'm wondering if anyone know of a TSB friendly dealer in the Los Angeles Area. Any suggestions on where to go? Should I call around eventhough it sounds like calling gets you denied most of the time. My VIN# fall in the Type A range and since I bought the car used it has almost 14K miles on the odo. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advanced.

Finally Got TSB, one question though...

So I finally got the TSB for the clutch done. It has been a while in the making for sure. During my last oil change about 2 months ago, I brought a printout of the TSB to the service manager. He said he had done 2 of them already and would be happy to do mine for me. He didn't even test drive the car or argue me down on miles (I had 19500) on the car when I got it done, he he!
Took about a week to order the parts and took 2 days to do the job. I got it done in Jackson MS, anyone else had one done in Mississippi?
Anyway, I got the car back and am very impressed with it. The clutch is so much easier to push down, and slightly smoother during shifts. I am however dissapointed in the fact that the travel of the pedal is not shorter. It has the same amount of travel as before. Is this something that was supposed to be changed to a shorter travel length, or do I have to do this myself with the clutch mod?
Look forward to hearing your comments...

It appears that some people have had the technicians adjust the length but most have not,

I'm not sure if the travel was supposed to be shortened, I am only aware that in the TSB it says the the clutch engages at too high of a point, and that the new clutch lowers the engagment point, but nothing about shortening travel length of the pedal.........

if you want it shorter that's most likely something you'll have to do yourself.....

So, Koenig, did you ever get your gears looked at?
I understand what you're saying--I ended up grinding my gears for a sec recently when I tried to shift into 2nd--but it didn't want to go in easily.
Shifting from 1 to 2 is usually not very easy.
Are we the only ones with this problem?

My pedal moves exactly as before. Just the engagement is different.

no I haven't had a chance, lol

BUT I am going this coming friday........ Oct. 5th, I'm gonna have them look at it under warranty, and I need them to look at it soon. It's my understanding the tranny warranty ends @ 12k miles and I'm pushing 11.7k heh

But yeah I'll let you know once I get it looked at

I still get the issue as I said......... once in a while when I try shifting into 2nd, it seems to stop JUST before it fully engages, and when i start to engage the gas again it just revs up and the car doesn't pull forward, I have to put it back into neutral and shift back into 2nd

my GF was in the car with me the other day when it happened, so now I'm going to take her with me to the dealer so I have a "witness" the worst part was the gears didn't usually grind, but when she was with me it made that awful GRRRRRRRRRRKT sound........ :(

[edit]

I suspect it to be the synchros not meshing, or some kind of "blockage" keeping my 2nd from meshing together, I will say this

I NEVER had a problem from 1st to 2nd BEFORE I had the TSB performed.

just an update for everyone, i was complaining before about the clutch feeling like it was constantly slipping before. today i went under the dash and was playing around with the clutch adjustment. holy crap, i think i fixed it :)

heres my theory: they replaced the parts but had it adjusted HORRIBLY. i adjusted properly, and now its wonderful. i drove it about 10 miles today, and it felt like a clutch should for the first time since getting the car 8 months ago :D

I re-adjusted mine after getting the tsb done. The action was linear after the fix but the pedal felt a little high. I lowered it 2.5 turns and then after some trial and error settled on just 1 turn. Its a longer action than our Protege5 and stiffer through out the travel but that is prolly because it is a performance clutch and it only has 12K on it vs. 85K on the Protege5. I'm just glad it doesn't pop out at me any more. I've had a few people drive it after getting the TSB done and no one is stalling like they did before.

Do you think it is worth doing the clutch fix to shorten pedal travel?

Well that depends on what you mean. Does it engage earlier in the release? Yes. Does the distance the clutch travels from the floor till it's all the way out change? Doesn't seem like it much if at all.
