Stupid kid won...for now.

The idiot threw a rock INTO my door (how did he miss the window?), then through the passenger side glass. Before he did he kicked/punched in the rear passenger door (maybe he heard about the fake/real unlock exploit?)...and sometime before finally gaining entry (and tripping off the alarm, scaring him away before he could steal anything), he must have tried to throw a window through the windshield near the driver's side.

The glass has been fixed, but the dents have to be done - they gave me a neutered VW Rabbit rental that has a cracked windshield.

The good news is that the Sheriff's Dept. caught the kid (I work at a hospital and there's always badged police there after-hours). Maybe his parents will give me restitution on the deductible....

his parents better pay you for that. you should make them pay to fix it completely, you shouldnt have to have that on your insurance even. what a prickass b****.

That sucks. Good luck having his parents pay...

A few years ago there was a kid in my neighborhood that walked around and smashed windshields on a dozen or so cars. They caught him, our lawyer and some others contacted his parents for damages and nothing ever came out of it... I personally didn't press the issue (although I probably should have)

Anyways, good luck.

Drop the kid around McArthur park or Echo park... problem will be taken care of quickly......

(kiddin of course but he deserves a good ass kicking to say the least)

Good luck getting the parents to even acknowledge anything ..

My sister happened to see some young teenage girls in the process of peeling all her decals off of her truck -- she yelled for her neighbor to call the police (whose local station happens to be right nearby) while she was running down the stairs to go after the girls. When she came outside, my sister started screaming at the teens -- who, of course, took off running. But my sis' actually chased the girls down the street for awhile (she's like that!) because she just WAS NOT going to let them get away .. until a local cop car pulled up and stopped everyone.

Of the three girls, two had managed to yank off decals and the third had just stood there watching .. and after the cop called all three sets of parents and they showed up, the ONLY set of parents to scold their child and make her apologize to my sister was the girl who had only been standing there! The parents of the two girls who had actually done damage just shoved their daughters in their cars and left -- no apology, NOTHING at all said to my sister.

A really bad situation for the OP, though .. cause chances are the parents just won't care.

i feel your pain man. someone egged my car along with a few others a couple weeks after i bought it. :(

If they don't offer to pay for all of the damages you take them to small-claims court. That is what it is for.

Man, I guess I have somewhat of a good story then. I lived and worked at a youth hostel in DC and we would have groups of BoyScouts and GirlScouts all the time.

Well, in a room with three adults, these kids managed to throw full cans of soda out onto the cars in the back lot. This is where the employees parked and of course my Eagle Talon was there since I lived there.

I found that my side view mirror was destroyed when I came out the next morning. I searched all of the rooms on 9 floors to finally find where it happened. It was on the top floor and there were even some other cans of the same type of soda on the window sill.

I contacted the kids parents and they eventually sent me a check for the full invoice price of the mirror which was something crazy like $500 for one mirror.

They said they were going to make the kid mow lawns to make the money back, ha ha (yupnope)

hearing all these horror stories is really making me feel uneasy. First TRSpeeds car gets stolen and stripped of its parts...now this. Freakin crazy.

The parents actions speak volumes about they've failed to properly raise their children. Clearly, this is how they've dealt with their childrens' misbehavior their entire life.

Bad parents raise bad children who either wind up in jail, or raise bad children themselves. And the cycle continues...

Dunno - I didn't see the kid. If I had, there'd probably have been a charge against me too (assault/attempted murder).

The insurance-paid damage hovers in the $2300-$2700 range (can't actually remember) plus my deductible of $500.

I'm using this opportunity to replace the front bumper that I broke as well as take out some scratches on the left fender and pull a rear fender dent and repaint. That's gonna cost me another $1677. Much of that is the front bumper/spoiler repair and some of you may remember me being appalled at how much that would cost when I mentioned it a few months back (almost a year now).

Finally my car will be somewhat like 'new' again. Unfortunately, I can still hear some glass in the left door where the glass guy's vacuum couldn't reach.

Wow, that really sucks man, but at least the kid got caught. I know its going to happen to my car at some point.... I can sadly admit that I used to be one of those kids. Sure I never did anything but break cheap wire atennas on old cars, or slash the tires of people I hated but the point is that what goes around comes around, and just as I am going to get hell for my actions, these kids will also get it back when they later own cars. May God have mercy on their souls.... (evil)

[edit] Rush, where have you been all my life and why am I only JUST now seeing you post on here?? :D lol

If you're able to get the kids or parent's contact info, your insurance company will try to subrogate that parents for all the damages, including your deductible.....See, not all collections calls are bad
