Mazdaspeed MX-5: Sorely dissapointed

Actually here in ny, at paragon honda, an s2k can be had for 28k before taxes.
Leftover 03's?? I just assume that the lowest msrp is what Honda would put on their website. It doesn't take into account incentives, dealer holdbacks, and fair markups. I wouldn't pay sticker for a MSM or a S2000. Apples to apples, msrp to msrp... The S2000 is a much more expensive car. How that is playing out in the real world with supply and demand can be a very different thing. I just know that I managed to buy my MSP which had a msrp of 21K, for 16.5K with 6 miles on the clock... Limited vehicle market adjustments are all fine for the people who are willing to tolerate that kind of crap, but at the end of the month when the sales manager is sitting there staring at his fleet of stationary RX-8's, I bet he is more than willing to dicker on the MSM price...(wiggle)

Well, you're still getting a good deal for the money. Go buy a base Miata, put on Bilkens, 17's, and a turbo. You'll be well over 30k, and no warrenty.

28k before taxes isn't the honda website msrp. Last fall when I was car shopping, I was considering an 03 Si hatch, so I visited Paragon Honda, the best selling honda dealership in NY. They had the Si for 15.5k before taxes, and the s2k for 28k before taxes, and I do believe they were 04s. Those were the specials at that time. I used to have a civic lx from paragon, their service is great, free oil changes, and they even gave me quite a few alignments on warranty. Though my mazda dealer does that too, Great Neck Mazda, another great dealership in ny.

Considering the gains of the Mx-5 over stock, unless you really like its look for some reason, just ******* get an FD

(lol)

Who can afford the $15K-$20K cash for an fd?!?! NOT me, or I'd have one. :(

I suppose if you have stellar credit you could get a loan for one, but all banks consider a 9-11 year old car TOO OLD to finance so much $$$ on, at least that's what I found. :(

Also, lets not forget about the FD's legendary out of box un-reliability, on top of the fact its 9-11 years old. Bring on the heat shielding and zip ties.

Go drive one then! The closest dealership to me that I can find one at is 400 mile away. :( our local Mazda dealership is not a Mazdaspeed authorized dealer, so they say. :(

same here...my dad's the service mgr. at the local Mazda dealer, they were told by Mazda that to carry any Mazdaspeed cars or parts they had to buy a factory advertising package for around $5000, and stock about $25k in MS parts, both factory replacement( for service) plus accesories. this was when the MSP protege came out an I was droolin for one but was told NOBODY this half of the state could get one (screwy)
BTW you said you autocross? got any pics?? sn the ones of your cars, was wonderin if any of em in action, Im gettiin into road and autox racing now(reformed dragracer) but nobody here does it, cept the SCCA meets the local rich boys hold...in the mall parking lot......................

you want action shots? here's a couple of me at Texas motor speedway. Excuse the watermarks, as I didn't feel like paying $25 for a digital picture, even if it is kinda cool...

get rx8 then or wait for the rx7
Well, I can't afford an rx8 as much as i want one. Also, I don't think there'll ever be another rx7, if there is, I doubt it'd be called an rx7, it wouldn't make sense if it was. I mean 7 refers to the generation right? If anything a rotary powered coupe would be called a rx9.

car has a sweet stance, the color plus those rims (bowdown)

Well right now theres that $5000 markert adjustment in my area (Las Vegas) which will put the MS MX-5 over $30,000 after tax and title. I dont know if the same is true for other areas. For that price id much rather be sitting in an SRT-4. However, the SRT-4 is not rear wheel drive.

Just picked one up in San Jose, CA for $23,800 with leather. There are a number of dealer rebates they don't talk about - one is a loyalty $1500 if you are a mazda owner - so with that alone, if you can get them down to around $25K before this rebate, $23.5K should be possible.
The straight line speed may not be record breaking but take it on a mountain road and you'll find out what it was made for - lightening quick and almost intuitive at the limit.

I think the MSM is nice if you are going to leave it be. If you are going to tinker with it might as well get an older miata and turbo it. There is nothing special about the MSM except some suspension(horrible wheel choice on size and weight) and ecu tunning. The engine is pretty much the same as the old 1.8. And if you really try to get something out of it you will end up replacing what the Factory gave you.

I see the MSM as mazdas attempt to sell a few more miatas before the new chassie comes out

In al fairness to the sales rep, his manager was probably the one to ruin the fun for both of you. I am a Mazda sales consultant, and I can go in the office and tell him that I have a customer that won't buy the car for more than 20k, and he will immediatly work up numbers that are outrageous and work down from there. It's all part of the game that is almost manditory to run on customers. The magic words for you to say are, "If you can get me this car for "X" price out the door, then I will buy it today" Those last three words will make any sales manager horny as hell and they will be more willing to come down a shitload. Be patient, stick to your numbers, and keep saying, "I will buy it today IF....." Trust me!!!!

I traded in my MSP for the MSM. just like they are saying, youve gotta test drive it. originally i just wanted the free $20 gift certificate to outback, but i ended up buying the damn car. i love it, i feel no turbo lag like the protege had, also all the cars feel the same, i test drove two. i ended up with the leather for 24,500.

go ahead, buy that srt-4 and when you are trading it in two years down the road see what you get for it. a miata will hold its value much more and i doubt youd even want to trade it in in the first place.

I was cruisin a dealership the other day for the fun of it and a salesperson suckered me into talkin about the new mazdaspeed MX-5. He claimed that he could get me into it for a price that I new he couldn't so I played along and took if for a ride. The sales rep claimed that this thing was absolutely hot. I was SORELY DISSAPOINTED. Im not sure what size the turbo was but there was all sorts of turbo lag. It wasnt boosting until nearly 4500 rpm. It lost boost during the shift and had to be re-spooled. The spool up was very rough; not the smooth feeling that we turbo fans all love. It only puts down 151 horses at the wheels which is miserable for a turbo 4 cylinder. To boot they claim its so hot right now that they can tack on an extra $5000 dollars to the msrp (totaling nearly $30,000). Ive owned a few turbo charged cars and have driven several more and this is by far the worst. And to bring my story to a close the salesperson came back with a price of 620 a month when he claimed he could get me in it for 380 a month, so I walked. Thanks for the joy ride anyhow Howie! I guess Im just trying to see what other people think who have driven it. Let me know.

No Mazdaspeed MX-5 for Norway, u guys are so lucky u can buy this at your local dealer...Mazda Norway stink!! dont(drinks) and (drive)

iD LOVE TO TRY IT OUT BUT I DONT FIT iM 6,4 A SLENDER 185, I DINDT TRY TO SIT IN THE MX 5 BUT WHEN I BOUGHT MY PROTEGE, I SAT IN THE MIATA FLOOR MODLE, BUT COULDNT REALY FIT.I CAN GET IN BUT MY LEGS ARE SO PRESSED AGAINST THE WALL AND THE STERING WHEEL & MY HEAD GOES OVER THE ROOF LINE, IT THE TOP WERE DOWN, THERE WOULD BE A HOLE WITH MY HEAD POPING OUT!
