Thats got to be the smallest intercooler i've ever seen! Mazda needs to cut out that " oh were on a budget" s*** and spend alittle. Thats why or phuckin cars are lacking power now regardless of what anyone says. That s**** annoying..:(

It's probably a good size for the low output of the turbo. If the car were producing 250+hp, you'd expect a larger intercooler, but were talking about 170hp approx.

Even the late modle twin turbo supra's have small intercoolers tucked into the corner of the bumper. Check out a turbo audi or a eclipse gs-t. They all have small intercoolers. Mazda did us a favor by putting much the tubing in place for a nice fat FMIC.

Why are you guys whineing so much? Just because you see a 4 foot wide 2 foot high water to air intercooler on a 500+ HP Twin turbo Supra you think you need that on a 170 HP protege? Come on. My cousin went to the junk yard to pick up an air to air intercooler for his new Turbo Starion, (20 bucks by the way, great deal!) and it was just about that size. Except that one in the Mazdaspeed looks like it might be aluminium. Anyways, the starion sites say that a dinky intercooler like that one is good for 10-12 PSI on there car. I know the protege is no starion, but I'm sure that intercooler get's the job done fine. I guess my words are falling on def ears though, mazda came out with a protege with an awsome suspension and a slamming sound set up, the MP3, and people still have to swich out speakers, change wheels, springs and all that.... people will mod anything they CAN mod.

Got rant?

Actually, the starion is only 2.0 just like the Protege. But the starion is the fastest production 2.0 ever. Why didn't you just buy a starion intercooler for your starion. That's what I'm putting on my MP3.

when I checked out the MS Protege at Carlisle...

the intercooler isn't THAT small actually. In case you haven't notice it, the intercooler is installed VERTICALLY on the right of the front grill. It extends from the bottom of the bumper all the way up to the top of the front grill. and it's about a foot wide and probably 2-3 inches thick.

Instead of saying it's small, I think it's cleverly packaged :)

.big_ben... To say my cousin that bought the intercooler is on a tight budget would be an understatement. He has almost no money to work with, and the intercooler he got was from an old turbo probe GT. Like I said he got it for 20 bucks. He got the CAR for only $500 and some stereo stuff. It's in awesome condition considering for what he paid. He took for a ride in it the other day, not as fast as I would expect...but it handled like a champ
