Does anyone have or recommend a Mazdaspeed stainless exhaust over any other aftermarket exhaust? How loud is the MSP exhaust in comparison to stock and others? What about pricing, Is the MSP just as expensive as others? Sorry for all the questions, but I want a good exhaust the first time, I dont want to have to make this purchase again!!

I'm happy with it. I personally, don't think it's that loud...but some members think it drones at higher rpms. As far as pricing is concerning...it's cheaper than most other exhausts. If you're looking for a different alternative...alot of members here are happy with the Racing Beat exhaust. If you go with with the Mazdaspeed exhaust just make sure you get the right one. There is a difference between the P5 and the regular sedan versions.

the price is 149 shipped to you from mazdastuff.com. i like it alot, and i dont think it's as loud as some members say it is. it's not ricey at all. i like it alot, and i think it looks really nice on a protege 5. i think it's good for the money because $300+ seems to be alot for an extra 2 tp 3 horsepower. also, the car gets to 90mph faster. if you want to hear it, PM leppylx. i think that's his sign on name. he has a silver 03 lx with it and a vid of it.

anyone have a sound clip that doesnt require crappy quicktime or even crappier real player?

im looking to get an exhaust, it will be a full header/catback one and i want the quietest one available with the best hp gains

i just dont think a p5 should be loud and i would feel like an ass drving around in it if it was

thanks

I have a mazdaspeed axle back if anybody wants one. I just installed my ful new exhaust (OBX header, MAM midpipe, and Magnaflow CB) and it's a little too loud for me, but I'll probably just get a high flow cat welded into the midpipe or something. But the MS axle back with the stock pipe was very nice. I liked it a lot and very rarely noticed any drone.

I'm personally very pleased with the MS exhaust.

I couldn't really justify spending $400+ on a full catback for maybe 3-5 HP gains, but also wanted something that gave the 5 a more aggressive tone, and looked much better.

The MS exhaust is significantly louder than stock (as its intended to be), especially when flooring it or opening up the throttle alot.
It is, however, a very nice, DEEP, throaty sound. It not "tinny" and rattley, or whiney like you hear ricers have, and is not obnoxiously loud either.

I got used to the volume in a day or two, and since I always have my radio or CD player on, with the volume turned to the "third" bar, you cant really even hear it. Oh, and looks really nice as well. Not huge like some catbacks, but not teensy like the stock either.

Easily worth the $150 I paid for it new.

I like mine but I haven't had any other brand on this car (besides stock). I don't notice the sound much during the commute. However, was up in Wis. this weekend and with the truck packed full of stuff it was definately louder than usual- in my sedan. Don't know how the sound resonates in a P5 but for some reason the sedan's trunk seems to amplify the noise. On the other hand, when on highway it was okay, and my daughter had no trouble napping in the backseat. I did notice the droning when under load going up grades. But I got it on sale for $120 so I'm pleased with it.

I got my MAZDASPEED exhaust and loved it when the rest of my exhaust was stock. There was a little drone between 3 & 4 grand. I dynamatted the hatch under the carpet and that solved the problem.

When I got my header I was now pushing a lot more air, thus making the MS pipe louder. Then when I installed the MAM highflow midpipe holy hell did the P5 get really loud. There is tons of air pushing out that pipe now. I can hear it above my stereo with subs and amps on the freeway. Under load climbing a hill on the freeway at say 80 plus its really loud. I wan't a magnaflow cat back.

The MAZDASPEED exhaust is really the best for the buck as long as you keep the rest of your exhaust stock. Its got a nice deep tone and a gurgle at idle.

Dynamat

rednecks r us,

Can you clarify where you put the Dynamat? My experience with the noise level is the same as yours and I'm getting ready to do the Dynamat. Any info you could provide would be useful.

Thanks in advance.

I put ot in the back hatch under the carpet. I had some large sheets left from when I did my 66 Mustang. So I just laid them under the carpet. didn't stick it down. It was done as a temp to see if it worked and I never went back to actually stick it in.

PITA to move all the neons, amp and subs. Or just lazy.

Dynamat

rednecks r us,

If I understand you correctly then, you just put it on the floor and not on the wheel wells or on the fifth door...right?

Thanks again.

Rich

Correct Rich.

It was left over from the stang so I just laid it back there under the carpet. I would like to get more and really do the back hatch (sides & 5th door).

It was an experiment that I haven't gone back to finish. It helps a little, but completely insulating the hatch would be much better.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I'll let you know how it works when I get to it. Probably delayed a bit now thanks to the stone that cracked the windshield this afternoon.

then go for racing beat. the mazdaspeed one is much louder than stock and if you're not looking for extra noise it's a bad choice.
