MAZDASPEED - day in court

I went to court yesterday for my speeding ticket, I received in March for 83 mph in a 50 mph. The judge was cool. I had to pay court costs ($153.00). Not cheap; but the ticket was for $172.00.

So nothing goes on my record. I'm pleased. Plus; I saved $19.00.

My advice: If you get a ticket, and elect to go to court, have a really good attitude. I think that is really important.

Yeah, attitude is the MOST important thing, actually. My father is a Judge, and he always judges people on three things:

1) appearance. You would be amazed at how many people come into court in tank-tops, wife-beater shirts and cutoff jeans. If you dress appropriately (I wore a shirt and tie both times all three times I have had to appear), the first thing the judge sees is that you take the court seriously and that you realize that court is not a joke.

2) attitude. If you walk in there screaming that "it was not my fault", then there is a problem. Not to say that you take responsibility for everything, but just understand that you are responsible for your vehicle and the people in it. Also, have a positive outlook, look into the eyes of whoever addresses you, and be honest (they can tell when you are lying; my father is a human lie-detector, and it sucks).

3) Language and courtesy. Address everyone by their proper title. Refer to ladies as "m'am", and men as "sir." It is never bad to respond with the best English you can think of, and always with the common "yes m'am, no m'am; yes sir, no sir." I know it seems stupid, but it does help things. MOST IMPORTANTLY: NO PROFANITY WHATSOEVER.

Not trying to sound better than anyone, but when I went to court for my reckless driving ticket (67 in a 45), my dad told me these, and luckily for me, the case got dismissed.

Hope this helps. :D

so in otherwords don't go in there "yo yo yo what it is motherfuckers?" with a beer in one hand and your girlfriend/wifes neck in a headlock with the other while kicking the family dog?

damnit!! well there goes my fun for the weekend

ROFLOL reminds me at my last court appearance. I swear to F-in A that the most trash, Gangsta wannabees showed up.

Jeans, toren, cut shirts, chewing gum etc.

Then there is me in my suit :)
Just about every single one of them kept asking if I was their lawyer. heheh

One guy even walked up and was just mutter..I dunno..Felt like it...F the cop.
Ahhh he was sentenced to prision for a year.

Then I walked up and only got 100 fine, and no points which would have been bad cause it was going to be 6 points.

hehe I always get caught when driving like everyone else.

Wait that doesn't mean much around here where 85 is slow on the highway.

Do you guys talk to the prosecuter before walking up to the judge ?

That's how it works around here in Jersey. If you want any kind of leniency, you stand in line (for hours, sometimes) and wait to speak with the prosecuter, who will offer you a plea bargain. A four point ticket will be reduced to two points, sometimes with an increased fine, for example. All the judge does is look at the prosecuter's recommendation, ask if you plead guilty to the lesser charge, pound his gravel and send you off on your merry way to the cashier. :p Oh, and there is this little known law in this state that if you appear in court and have any kinds of points removed for a THIRD time, you receive an automatic FIVE points on your license. :wtf: I found that out the hard way. :bs: NJ sucks.

Newf said it best: Just don't get caught.

Nope just talk to the judge. I've talked with the cop while waiting outside but never to the PR.
Judge normally hears you, the PR/officer, and the makes a call.
Average time up there 2 minutes.

i got off my ticket too, a 65 in a 50, slowing down from 100, and the cop was pissed because i tryed to lose him; ( he didnt turn on his lights yet, but he was turning around, so i tryed to make a whole bunch of turns, then i saw the lights and stopped) But i went to court dressed really nicely, and i only got careless driving, and no points, so i was happy... I really think I was the best dressed defendant in the court room (mj)

haha, everything said in here is true, and is good stuff...but for people like me, running and not "getting caught" seem to be getting harder and harder to do.
